Motorists traveling through Atlantic City and the Downbeach communities should allow extra time this weekend as the sold-out 2026 AmeriHealth Atlantic City Marathon Race Series brings thousands of runners, volunteers and spectators to the area.
The race weekend will be held Saturday, Oct. 17, and Sunday, Oct. 18, with events beginning on the Atlantic City Boardwalk. The G. Larry James 5K and 10K will start at 9 a.m. Saturday. The marathon and half marathon will begin at 8 a.m. Sunday.
Temporary road closures, detours, parking restrictions and traffic delays are expected along the courses in Atlantic City, Ventnor, Margate and Longport. Most Sunday closures and detours are expected to be in effect between 6:30 and 11:15 a.m. Streets will reopen on a rolling basis after the final participants pass and course materials are removed.
Drivers should plan ahead, use alternate routes when possible and follow directions from police officers and traffic-control personnel. Motorists heading to casinos, the Marina District or other locations near the race routes should expect heavier traffic and possible delays.
People using the Atlantic City and Ventnor boardwalks should also watch for temporary restrictions and increased pedestrian traffic throughout the weekend.
Now in its 68th year, the Atlantic City Marathon is the third-oldest continuously running marathon in the United States. This year’s marathon, half marathon, 10K and 5K are sold out.
