City of Atlantic City Mayor Marty Small, Sr. says the city is fully prepared for the anticipated snowfall expected to hit the region starting this afternoon into tomorrow morning. The National Weather Service (NWS) currently has Atlantic City under a Winter Storm Warning. The City of Atlantic City Department of Public Works began treating the roads with brine at 6:00 this morning, and are ready to deploy cleanup crews throughout the overnight hours as needed. Public Works, the Atlantic City Office of Emergency Management and the Atlantic City Police Department have extra staff and vehicles, including military surplus vehicles, on standby as needed. As of this afternoon’s briefing, Mayor Small has not made a final decision on the status of city buildings tomorrow. If closed or the opening hours are delayed, the public will be notified via www.acnj.gov, the city’s social media accounts and the AC Alerts notification system. Atlantic City residents are encouraged to sign up for AC Alerts on the city’s website to receive text and email updates.
At the request of the City of Atlantic City’s Office of Emergency Management, the New Jersey Casino Reinvestment Development Authority (CRDA) has authorized the Wave Parking Garage, located at the corner of Mississippi and Fairmount Avenues, to provide free parking for all Atlantic City residents and visitors in effect at 3:00 PM today through 3:00 PM tomorrow (February 12th). Free parking is permitted on the second floor of the garage during this time period. All residents and visitors are encouraged to utilize the Wave Parking Garage to keep the streets empty for the Public Works Department.
Atlantic City is currently under a Code Blue through at least 10:00 AM tomorrow with temperatures forecasted to drop below 32 degrees at times during this period. During a Code Blue, the Atlantic City Rescue Mission opens its doors to all who need shelter and food. The Atlantic City Police Department, as available, provides transportation to the Atlantic City Rescue Mission. The City of Atlantic City urges residents and visitors to avoid unnecessary travel during and immediately after any heavy snowfall and to use extra caution when on the roadways. This includes traveling at a slower speed and keeping distance between other vehicles on the road, especially snow plows and emergency vehicles. The Atlantic City Recreation division is canceling all after school programming today. The Atlantic City Senior Services division is canceling this evening’s Fun & Fitness Class at All Wars Memorial Building and is postponing tonight’s Senior Valentine’s Day dinner at Stockton.
