City of Atlantic City Announces Preparation Plans for Impending Weekend Storm

With heavy rain and strong wind gusts expected to increase tonight and tomorrow, flooding is the major concern in Atlantic City with this system. Expect moderate coastal flooding in some low-lying areas in back bay neighborhoods on Saturday, more than Atlantic City is used to. Road closures can also be expected on Saturday due to flooding. Areas that tend to experience the most flooding include Rhode Island, Massachusetts and Melrose Avenues, Fairmount Avenue, Winchester Avenue and Boulevard and West End Avenues. Do not drive through flood waters, and any vehicles in areas prone to flooding should be moved.

The New Jersey Casino Reinvestment Development Authority (CRDA) has authorized free parking this weekend, effective at 4:00 p.m. today, in the Wave Parking Garage located at Mississippi and Fairmount Avenues. This is open to residents and visitors on the second floor of the garage.

High tide on Saturday afternoon is during the mid afternoon hours, leading to potential drainage issues and enhanced flooding if it is raining during that time period.  Beach erosion is expected on Atlantic City’s north side.

The Office of Emergency Management asks residents to secure outdoor furniture and all loose objects outside of their homes ahead of the increase in wind gusts.

Residents are also encouraged to sign up for the city’s emergency notification system ‘AC Alerts’ to receive text and email updates during the weekend: https://www.acnj.gov/pages/acalerts

The Office of Emergency Management has been preparing for this storm for the last several days, including ensuring all high vehicles and water response and rescue equipment is ready to go. Staff schedules have also been adjusted, as the OEM Command Center will be open on Saturday.
