All it takes to get in the Christmas Spirit this holiday season is a visit to The Historic Smithville Village located at 615 E Moss Mill Rd in Galloway. This Norman Rockwellesque village channels the Spirit of Christmas making even the grinchiest of people tap into their inner Santa and fully experience the magic of the holidays.

The centerpiece of this enchanted village is the Light show on the Lake which takes place from 5:30 – 8:00 PM every Thursday through Sunday starting Thanksgiving November 22nd and ending January 7th. Visitors come from near and far to enjoy this dancing light spectacular. Imagine strolling through the village with a peppermint hot chocolate in hand surrounded by the people you love as you drink in over 120 Christmas Trees adorning over 50,000 lights masterfully orchestrated to dance in sync with holiday music while magically floating on Lake Meone. It’s nothing short of sensational!

The Historic Village of Smithville also offers an array of other memorable Christmas experiences in December like S’mores on the Green. Fire pits have been setup on the green near the soap shop (number 85 on the walking map) and for a small fee you can purchase a s’mores making kit and gather around the fire to cook up your own oooey gooey treat. Join in every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday in December from 5-8pm (weather permitting).

Christmastime is extraordinarily special when you get to experience the holidays through your children’s eyes.  Smithville Village has holiday experiences designed just for kids. Mrs. Claus will make a special trip from the North Pole and will be visiting the Antique Arcade in Smithville Village (number 65 on the walking map) every weekend in December from 1:30 pm to 4:30 pm. Here she will read stories of Christmas, take pictures with your children, and talk to your children about the wonders of the holiday. Who knows, if you’re lucky maybe Mrs. Claus will even dish on what it’s like to be married to Santa. If you’re having a hard time locating Mrs. Claus, no problem, just ask the magical talking Christmas Tree. Yes, you read it right, directly next to the Smithville Train Station is a giant Christmas Tree that was brought in specially from Santa’s magical forest. This magical Christmas Tree has special powers and will awaken to talk to you and your children about the approaching holidays as well as any other subjects you wish. Come enjoy the magical tree Friday evenings, and all day both Saturday and Sunday until Christmas. Right next to the magical tree is one of Historic Smithville Villages most popular attractions, The Smithville Train. Decorated to the hilt in Christmas trimmings, this train is ready to ride you through the outskirts of the village on a 6 ½ minute adventure. A ride on the whimsical Smithville Train is $2 and will run the entire month of December during Smithville Villages regular hours.

Santa Claus is coming to town this Christmas holiday and will stop by Fred and Ethel’s to have breakfast with kiddos on the “nice” list. Join Santa as he takes a break from his regular breakfast of cookies and milk to enjoy some traditional breakfast favorites on December 8th and 15th. Everyone wants to have breakfast with Santa before he heads back to the North Pole, so call for more information or reservations to guarantee your space. 609-652-0544.

The Historical Smithville Village knows that the true meaning of Christmas has nothing to do with how many gifts are wrapped under the tree but instead the people we love wrapped up in each other experiencing the wonders of what the holiday season brings. To quote one of the wisest men to ever live, Dr Seuss, “It came without ribbons, it came without tags, it came without packages boxes or bags. And he puzzled and puzzled until his puzzler was sore. Then the Grinch thought of something he hadn’t before. What if Christmas, he thought, doesn’t come from a store. What if Christmas perhaps, means a little bit more.”
