Calvi Electric Company, a South Jersey institution since 1909, is assuring its employees, customers, and partners that it remains strong, stable, and deeply committed to the community in the wake of the recent passing of their beloved president, Michael Brestle.

Michael, who led the fourth-generation family business with vision and dedication, passed away just days after his beloved mother, Kay (Calvi) Brestle. The Brestle family has been moved by the outpouring of condolences and support from across the region.

“We are overwhelmed by the compassion our family and the company have received by the community,” said George Brestle, CEO. “Calvi Electric is more than a business — it is an institution which has been the fabric of the Atlantic City region for 116 years. We want to reassure everyone that our focus on delivering exceptional service is unchanged, and we are taking swift and deliberate steps to ensure continuity and stability during this period of transition.”

For more than 116 years, Calvi Electric has been the region’s leading electrical contractor. Its work includes some of the most recognizable landmarks and institutions in South Jersey – from powering the casinos on the iconic Atlantic City skyline to providing electrical services

for hospitals, schools, manufacturing plants, and religious facilities. Signature projects include Osprey Rehabilitation Hospital, Rowan University School of Veterinary Medicine Fire Alarm Upgrade, various AtlantiCare projects including Mainland Division Meadows Vertical Expansion, Atlantic Couty Institute of Technology Career & Technical Education Building and numerous projects at the FAA William J. Hughes Technical Center and the Atlantic City Airport.

“We have the most dedicated team in the industry,” added George Brestle. “As Michael would often remind us, ‘We’ve been lighting the way since back in the day’ — and we will continue to do so for years to come. Now more than ever, we will honor his memory and legacy by continuing to provide our community with what they need, when they need it, for decades to come.

Calvi Electric’s reputation for excellence is very well established. Charles “Chick” Deveney, Executive Vice President of the company, noted: “A lot of our customers have reached out, and we truly appreciate it. We’re letting them know we are here, as always, and will continue to be.”

James D. Hammerstedt, Sr., CPA of Fabietti, Hale, Hammerstedt and Powers, Calvi’s accounting firm on record for more than 60 years, noted: “This is a terrible loss, both personally and professionally, but Calvi is solid. It is poised to continue to thrive and grow as it has done for over a century.”

The Brestle family has announced that a public Mass of Christian Burial for Michael will be celebrated at Blessed Sacrament Church in Margate on Saturday, September 27. Visitation begins at 9:00 a.m., followed by Mass at 11:00 a.m.

Calvi Electric has long been committed to philanthropy in South Jersey, supporting a wide range of community causes. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Angels in Motion in Michael’s memory, a cause close to his heart, or for a charity of your choice.
