In celebration of Black History Month, the Holtman Gallery at the Marjorie & Lewis Katz Jewish Community Center (JCC) is proud to host Honoring the Past, Inspiring the Future, a compelling art exhibition on display from February 2 through March 1. The exhibition is in the JCC’s lobby and is open to the public.

The showcase features works by acclaimed artists E.B. Lewis, Kimberly Camp, Jose Sebourne, Natasha Davis, John Morris, and Valeria Marcus, whose creations reflect powerful stories of history, culture, identity and creativity. Their pieces honor the legacy of the past while encouraging dialogue, reflection and new ideas for future generations.

To mark the exhibition and highlight the artists, the Katz JCC will host an Art Gallery Reception on Thursday, February 12, from 5:30 to 8:30 pm. The evening will include special remarks by Atlantic City Councilman Kaleem Shabazz and other invited guests. Attendees will have the opportunity to meet the artists, explore the collection and acquire original works throughout Black History Month.

“This exhibition is about more than art.  It’s about connection, representation, and shared experience,” said Marg Rosenblatt, Chief Executive Officer of the Katz JCC. “By welcoming these artists and their stories into our gallery, we create a space to honor the past, celebrate the present and amplify voices that deserve to be seen and heard. We invite everyone in the community to come, reflect and be inspired.”

Guests at the reception can enjoy music, complimentary wine, light fare, and beverages in a festive and welcoming atmosphere. The event is FREE and open to the public, and a portion of all art sale proceeds will benefit the Katz JCC and its community programs.

Through this exhibition, the Katz JCC reaffirms its commitment to k’lal Yisrael, fostering connection and unity by highlighting diverse voices, perspectives, and stories. Using art as a bridge to understanding and dialogue, the JCC offers a space where everyone in the community can learn from one another and be inspired to make a meaningful impact.
