Halloween is approaching, and with it comes a special kind of magic in the air. While to some, Halloween means trick-or-treating and focusing on costumes for the kids, this year, we want the adults to have some fun too. So here are a few ideas that we think you may enjoy.
Go on a ghost tour
Luckily, we have the best of the best when it comes to ghost tours for spooky season. Mays Landing offers a ghost tour full of bone-chilling stories that happened around the town. So, grab some friends and get ready to be spooked. Or take a ride on The River Rat, an evening boat ride down the Great Egg Harbor River paired with eerie tales.
It’s a great way to get into the Halloween spooky vibes while also having a nice night.
Take a fall foliage hike or walk
In our opinion, one of the best parts about Halloween is that it’s in the fall season. The air is suddenly crisp, and the trees are beginning to change colors, making every trail and wooded area magical. Take a trail walk or hike through some of our local foliage-covered paths, like Birch Grove Park or Egg Harbor Township Nature Reserve. It’s a great way to enjoy some fresh air and get your body moving before all the candy you have to consume!
Go pumpkin picking
Pumpkin picking is arguably more fun as an adult! In our area, we have so many different farms and places that have pumpkin patches, hayrides and corn mazes. Pick the one closest to you and indulge in a day full of all the fall activities you can. The season only happens once a year, so take advantage of the cooler temps before winter strikes.
Make yummy treats
The first thing most people think of when they hear Halloween is probably candy, so let’s go with it. There is, of course, a ton of candy consumed during the Halloween season, and that’s exactly how it should be. As you’re sitting in your Halloween-inspired pajamas, passing out candy to the trick-or-treaters at your door, set aside a handful for yourself and experiment. Bake different candy bars into brownies or cookies, throw things together to make a candy salad and just eat whatever you want. Let the sugar rush hit the adults this year, too!
Halloween movie marathon night
There are some great Halloween-inspired movies, from horror films to family-friendly ones. Pick a handful of your favorites, pop the popcorn, grab your candy, fluff the blankets and get cozy for your night-in Halloween movie marathon. Invite friends, family, or nestle in and watch alone. Both are great ways to indulge in the season and have a fun night in.
Host a Halloween bonfire
Another way to pass the time if you’re planning on passing out candy to trick-or-treaters is to host a bonfire. Invite some neighbors over and start a fire in your fire pit on the front lawn. Have the candy ready for the kids to grab, a drink in your hand and the fire roaring in front of you. It’s a great way to get involved in the kids’ night while still doing something fun yourself and being involved within your neighborhood community.
Halloween game night
We watched Halloween movies, but how about some Halloween games? A game night is always a good option when you want to stay in, be cozy and just enjoy the company of a few close friends. Bake some treats, pour some drinks and invite some friends to enjoy Halloween night by beating each other at all your favorite board games. Bonus points if they’re actually Halloween-themed games!
At the end of the day, Halloween is all about having fun, enjoying the season and making memories, no matter how you choose to celebrate. Whether you’re heading out for a spooky adventure or staying home in your pajamas with a bowl of candy, there’s no wrong way to enjoy the holiday.
