On Saturday, December 9, 2023 the Atlantic City Fire Department partnered with the American Red Cross for a Home Fire Safety and Free Smoke Alarm Installation event in Atlantic City’s Bungalow Park neighborhood. Members of the ACFD, along with Red Cross volunteers, went door-to-door offering free smoke alarm installations in any home in need of them. In total, 116 smoke alarms were installed in 59 homes.
“This event is part of the Atlantic City Fire Department’s commitment to saving lives,” said ACFD Chief Scott Evans. “We don’t want to wait for an emergency situation to occur to realize a home doesn’t have properly functioning smoke detectors. Our goal is to save a life before a fire even starts. We thank our partners over at the Red Cross for working with us to protect our Atlantic City residents.”
Each year, this event takes place in a different Atlantic City neighborhood. Volunteers also distribute fire safety information and discuss with residents how they can prepare now should a fire break out in their home. The installation event is part of the American Red Cross’ Home Fire Campaign to help reduce the number of home fire-related injuries and fatalities.
