Award Ceremony to Honor Hackett Scheduled for Tuesday, July 2nd

The Absecon City Council is honoring disability pride month with a special ceremony honoring Jacob Hackett. This honor recognizes Mr. Hackett’s outstanding contributions to the community, his dedication to volunteerism, and his unwavering commitment to making a positive impact on the lives of others. The Absecon City Council will present Mr. Hackett with a proclamation to honor his incredible involvement in the community during a ceremony on Tuesday, July 2 at the beginning of the council meeting.

Last summer, Gov. Phil Murphy declared July Disability Pride Month, bringing awareness to the contributions made by New Jersey’s nearly 2 million residents with disabilities. He stated that people with disabilities are vital members of their communities, and all residents gain greater understanding and acceptance of disabled peoples’ capabilities and contributions through the advocacy work of people with disabilities.

Jacob Hackett, a devoted community member and advocate for the challenged populations, has demonstrated exceptional leadership and selflessness through his volunteer activities. He has been actively involved with Faces 4 Autism, the Hoops Basketball Program for challenged youngsters, and the Atlantic Center for Independent Living. Mr. Hackett’s journey has seen him evolve from a recipient of consideration to a compassionate giver, especially with special circumstances.

“My goal has always been and will continue to be a contributing member of my community,” said Jacob Hackett. “In spite of whatever limitations that I must deal with physically, the limitations do not reduce my desire and my heart as I try to be a positive force for others.”

Through his years at the South Jersey Field of Dreams, Mr. Hackett has learned firsthand how wonderful and unselfish individuals can bring joy and meaning to others. His family’s generations-long involvement in civic activities, including governance at the Absecon United Methodist Church, has served as an inspiration for Jacob’s continued commitment to community service.

Furthermore, Mr. Hackett’s outreach efforts at Atlantic Cape Community College and Rutgers University reflect his dedication to expanding his sense of citizenship to a broad spectrum of New Jersey residents, emphasizing the important roles that challenged populations can fulfill as contributing participants.
