Light the World in Teal is AFA’s largest annual Alzheimer’s awareness initiative. More than 1,750 sites in all 50 states and 17 other countries/territories are participating.
More than 7 million Americans, including 185,000 New Jersey residents, currently live with Alzheimer’s disease. The number of Americans with Alzheimer’s is projected to double by 2060, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
“Every Light the World in Teal site, whether it’s a skyscraper, a stadium, or a small village hall, helps make Alzheimer’s more visible and encourages greater understanding and support for the millions of families affected by Alzheimer’s,” said Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr., President & CEO of the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America. “These New Jersey sites are doing more than changing the color of a building—they are raising awareness and reminding everyone impacted by Alzheimer’s that they are not alone. We are grateful for their participation.”
Individuals can participate as well. On November 2, people can “go teal” by wearing teal, displaying teal at home or work, or using social media to share information about Alzheimer’s disease and raise awareness.
