As the elevated need for food and other products continues in the region, members of Beth El Synagogue, Congregation Beth Israel, Temple Beth Shalom, and Shirat Hayam Congregation as well as businesses and community individuals, hosted High Holidays collections to support Jewish Family Service of Atlantic & Cape May Counties (JFS).

The agency received more than 225 packed bags, equaling over 2,500 pounds, with many of the most requested products including peanut butter, jelly, hearty soups, canned tuna, cereal, oatmeal, sauce, rice, pasta, vegetables, snacks, diapers, wipes and more.

In addition, 30 volunteers joined together to unload, weigh, and sort products – checking dates, inventorying, stocking pantry shelves, and the mobile food truck – which travels to nearly 12 locations in Atlantic City every month.

“With the generous volume of non-perishable food and other items donated during the High Holidays, our pantry is able to continue providing essential support to thousands of people throughout the region,” said Andrea Steinberg, JFS Chief Executive Officer. “We are incredibly grateful to those who hosted the High Holiday food drives. Their generosity makes a meaningful difference for people in need.”

With Thanksgiving around the corner, JFS is currently collecting essential holiday food items and monetary contributions. A $45 donation allows the agency to purchase a turkey and side dishes for a family’s holiday dinner. Food bags can also be donated with non-perishable items including macaroni & cheese, yams, stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy, cranberry sauce, string beans, and corn.

Turkey Drive donations can be mailed to JFS, 607 North Jerome Avenue, Margate, NJ 08402 or made online at https://www.jfsatlantic.org/turkey-drive/.
