This fall, the Pink Hair Movement officially returns to the community, rallying local students, families, athletes and business owners to rock pink hair extensions and raise funds for Cancer Support Community New Jersey (CSCNJ).
What started as a tight-knit tribute to Mikenzie Helphenstine — a legendary Ocean City School District field hockey coach whose legacy still inspires the town — has exploded into a townwide annual tradition.
Throughout September and October, the community will see a wave of pink take over local schools, athletic fields and storefronts. Every dollar raised during these high-energy events goes directly to CSCNJ, funding free emotional, social and educational support programs for South Jersey teens navigating the challenges of a cancer diagnosis.
How Ocean City is rocking the pink this fall:
Sideline Spirit: Local athletic teams and schools are swapping their traditional gear for pink accents and extensions.
Main Street Magic: Ocean City businesses are stepping up with community events and celebrations designed to get everyone involved.
How to Make an Impact: Anyone can jump in by attending local events, making a donation, rocking their own pink hair or sharing the movement on social media.
“This movement is the perfect reflection of who Coach Mikenzie was — energetic, community-minded and fiercely supportive,” said Eileen Dillon of CSCNJ. “Seeing the youth and the community come together to support other teens facing cancer is incredibly powerful.”
Pink Hair Movement 2026 events:
Oct. 6 – Pep rally at Ocean City High School – 8:45 a.m.
Oct. 9 – Red and White Football game, Ocean City High School – 4 to 6 p.m.
Oct. 10 – Ocean City Block Party, 12th & Asbury – 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
