There are some foods that just feel like summer at the Jersey Shore, and pizza is pretty high on that list.
Whether it’s a classic cheese slice, pepperoni, a specialty pie loaded with toppings, or something a little outside the box, pizza has long been the go-to meal for families looking for something quick, easy, and, most importantly, delicious. It can be a grab-and-go lunch between beach and boardwalk plans, a slice enjoyed while walking along the boards, or a full sit-down meal with family and friends. Especially in Ocean City, you certainly are not short on options.
The Ocean City Boardwalk is home to several pizza shops, each bringing its own personality, style and loyal following. While their menus and specialties may differ, they all have something in common: pizza has a way of bringing people together. From a quick beach lunch to a late-night slice after a day of rides, pizza is practically part of the Ocean City summer experience.
You can’t talk about Ocean City pizza without talking about Manco & Manco.
Its iconic location at the Ninth Street corner has become a boardwalk landmark, with its bright lights, colorful branding and merchandise shop helping draw your attention before you even reach the door. During the summer, the line can tell you everything you need to know — stretching down the boardwalk as hungry beachgoers wait for their slice.
For me, Manco & Manco is more than just a pizza shop. It is one of those places tied to my own Ocean City memories. It was actually what I ate on my first birthday, and growing up, Manco & Manco became part of my summers whenever my cousins would come down for vacation. I would always meet them there after getting off the beach, making it one of those familiar Ocean City traditions that sticks with you.
That is what makes places like Manco & Manco so special. It is not just about the pizza. It is about the memories attached to it.
Just outside Playland, you will find another Ocean City favorite: Prep’s.
One of the best parts about Prep’s is that it offers a little bit of everything for the ultimate boardwalk stop. Pizza and ice cream, all in one place? That’s a pretty hard combination to beat.
The location makes it especially convenient for families spending the day at Playland. You can grab pizza before heading onto the rides, stop for ice cream afterward, or simply make the short walk around the corner for a little bit of both. For families with kids, it is practically the perfect boardwalk equation: rides, pizza and ice cream.
A newer addition to Ocean City’s pizza scene, Alex’s Pizza is already making its mark.
Located on 12th Street, Alex’s brings a little Philadelphia influence down the shore and is quickly building a following during its first summer in Ocean City.
One of my personal favorites is the Sicilian pizza. I love the doughy texture while still getting that crispness on the outside. It has that combination of soft and crunchy that makes a Sicilian slice especially satisfying. It is always fun to see a newer restaurant find its footing at the shore, and Alex’s is already becoming part of the local pizza conversation.
Down on Sixth Street, Roma Pizza is another longtime go-to for slices and specialty pies.
Pizza is certainly the star of the show, but it’s not the only thing worth mentioning here. Roma also offers Italian dishes, including fresh meatballs that are juicy, tender, and worth ordering on their own. It’s the kind of place that works whether you are grabbing a quick slice or looking for something a little more substantial.
Right along the Promenade, Gigi’s NY Pizza has a location that’s hard to beat.
Sitting near the Ocean City Waterpark, it is an easy stop for anyone looking to grab something before or after a day of sliding down the waterslides. The menu goes beyond traditional pizza, with different pizza options and strombolis, along with cauliflower and gluten-free pizza options. If you are spending the day in that section of the boardwalk, it is a convenient spot to grab a quick bite without having to venture too far from the attractions.
While it’s not technically on the boardwalk, Express Pizza on Battersea Road is another Ocean City option worth mentioning.
Located as you are heading toward the Gardens section of town, Express offers pizza alongside classic sandwiches, platters, and other favorites. It is a convenient neighborhood option for grabbing a pie to bring home, especially when you’re looking for something outside the hustle and bustle of the boardwalk.
Once you cross over the 34th Street Bridge and head into Ocean City’s south end, Randazzo’s is another family-friendly Italian restaurant to keep in mind.
Located on 34th Street, it is a convenient stop whether you are arriving on the island and looking for dinner or spending the day down in the south end. Their pizzas feature a soft, doughy crust, and the welcoming, family-style atmosphere makes it feel like a place where you can settle in for more than just a quick slice.
What I love about Ocean City’s pizza scene is that there really is not one definition of the perfect slice.
Maybe you’re looking for a classic cheese pizza after the beach. Maybe you want a Sicilian with a crispy edge and doughy center. Maybe you’re feeding a family before Playland. Or perhaps you’re looking for gluten-free or cauliflower options. There is something for just about every kind of pizza lover.
Ultimately, I think that is why pizza has become such a staple of the shore experience. It does not have to be complicated. Sometimes it is just sitting around a table with your family, grabbing slices with your cousins, eating on a bench after the beach, or walking the boardwalk with a paper plate in your hand.
For me, those simple pizza stops are connected to some of my favorite Ocean City memories — from my first birthday at Manco & Manco to meeting my cousins there during summer vacations.
