For Coffee Hub owner Cassandra Ferro, opening a coffee shop was about more than serving beverages. It was about creating a welcoming place where neighbors could gather, reconnect and enjoy a sense of community.
Located at 6105 W. Jersey Ave., Suite 6, in Egg Harbor Township, Coffee Hub celebrated its grand opening in Januaryof this year. Since opening, the café has become a popular destination for residents looking for handcrafted coffee, light fare and a comfortable place to meet friends or work remotely. Its motto, “Sip, Stay, Smile,” reflects the atmosphere Ferro set out to create.
Originally from New Castle, Pennsylvania, Ferro moved to New Jersey as a young child. She graduated from Oakcrest High School before attending Johnson & Wales University in Providence, Rhode Island. Her hospitality career began as guest services manager at the Sheraton Hotel in Atlantic City before she opened CJC Coffee & Gifts, which operated inside the Claridge Hotel.
After living in Egg Harbor Township for more than 20 years, Ferro said she realized the community lacked a neighborhood coffee shop where people could slow down and enjoy face-to-face conversations.
“I love coffee and conversations with family and friends,” she said. “There wasn’t a neighborhood coffee shop where people could gather, put their phones down and enjoy meaningful face-to-face conversations.”
The storefront was built from an unfinished shell, allowing Ferro to design the café from the ground up. Today, the space features comfortable seating, free Wi-Fi and a large mural that adds color and character to the interior. Customers use the café as a place to meet with friends, catch up on work, read or simply enjoy a quiet break during the day.
Coffee Hub serves Lavazza coffee, offering espresso drinks, cappuccinos, lattes, cold brews and a rotating selection of specialty beverages. New signature drinks are introduced every two weeks. The menu also includes fresh pastries, muffins, açaí bowls, Bassett’s Ice Cream and other light refreshments.
The café employs five baristas who focus on friendly service and consistency. A customer loyalty rewards program and gift cards are also available.
While quality coffee remains at the heart of the business, Ferro said creating connections within the community has always been the primary goal.
