Mainland Regional High School’s baseball program is facing a sudden leadership transition after three members of the coaching staff, including head coach Joe Smith, stepped down Sunday.
The resignations follow the earlier removal of an assistant coach on Friday in connection with a reported incident that occurred in Myrtle Beach.
The developments come just days into the season, with the team having played only one regular-season game. Athletic director Billy Kern will manage the program on an interim basis while the school begins the process of identifying new leadership.
According to multiple reports, the situation involves an allegation tied to an adult entertainment venue. During a meeting with parents, Superintendent Mark Marrone said details remain limited due to an active investigation but emphasized that no students were involved.
School officials have released few specifics publicly, and many aspects of the situation remain unclear. Further information is expected as the review continues.
