As we head into the spring months, the taste of summer looms ahead. With it comes the very best of our shore area, between beach days, sunsets on the bay and a joyousness in the air that only those fleeting months can bring. There’s something magical about the start of summer in South Jersey.
This year, that magic is set to grow even more with the opening of the Somers Point Paddle Club, a luxury private pool club. Opening along Bay Avenue, the club is aiming to become your new summer go-to, and from the looks of it, it just might be.
The original Paddle Club opened in Cape May in 2014, with a second location following in Brigantine in 2023. After several years of success in both shore towns, Scarborough Properties decided it was time for Somers Point to join in on the fun. The latest Paddle Club will be located at 520 Bay Ave.
“With this being our third club, we wanted to continue building on that vision by creating a private, waterfront pool club that offers a relaxed, social environment for people to enjoy during the summer season,” said Sean Scarborough, an owner of Scarborough Properties. “Our goal has always been to blend a resort-style atmosphere with a strong sense of community in beautiful coastal settings.”
While the club is still finalizing an exact opening date, it’s expected to debut around mid-May.
When imagining Somers Point Paddle Club, think marina views and a waterfront lifestyle. The goal is to create an atmosphere that feels relaxed yet elevated, a place where members can spend the day by the pool, enjoy water views and feel like they’re on vacation without ever leaving home. It’s the same vibrant energy they’ve brought to Cape May and Brigantine, now tailored for Somers Point.
Somers Point Paddle Club offers seasonal memberships running from May through September, with two primary options: Full Memberships and Social Memberships. Full Memberships provide access to all club amenities, including the pools, hot tubs, lounges, and dining areas. Social Memberships offer access to the food and beverage areas only, without access to the pools or lounging amenities. All amenities are reserved exclusively for members, making membership essential to fully experience the club.
Once inside, members will find two heated pools, two hot tubs, a 125-seat full-service bar and restaurant, cabana rentals, and tons of chaises and deck space to spend the day lounging and tanning. The space is designed to feel like a private paradise tucked along the bay.
The pools and hot tubs have been intentionally designed with separation in mind. One pool is reserved for adults ages 18 and older, offering a quieter and more relaxed environment. While the second pool serves as a designated kids’ zone, created to be inviting and comfortable for families.
After a day of swimming and soaking up the sun, members can head to the on-site restaurant, which will feature two distinct menus designed to complement a seamless day-to-night experience.
“Our menus are designed to offer a wide variety of options featured across both our all-day poolside menu and our 4 p.m. dinner menu,” Scarborough said. “We’re focused on providing thoughtfully prepared dishes for every preference. One of the elements we’re especially excited about is our on-site sushi bar, which adds another layer to the dining experience.”
Beyond the pools and dining, the club plans to host live music and a variety of special events for members throughout the season. From lively nights to laid-back afternoons by the water, the club promises something for every kind of summer day.
So far, the response from the community has been strong, with memberships filling quickly. The club reports it has already reached more than 70% of its membership quota.
“The response from the community has been overwhelmingly positive, which has been incredibly encouraging,” Scarborough shared.
With steady membership requests continuing to roll in, the team is eager to open the doors and welcome guests into the finished space, where they will be operating and accepting membership applications on site in early April.
“I hope they’re immediately struck by the level of quality and the attention to detail,” Scarborough said. “We want that first impression to signal that this isn’t a typical day at the Shore, but something truly special. There’s something incredibly rewarding about watching people experience the space for the first time and seeing their reaction to the final product. We’ve put so much thought into every detail, and I’m excited to see just how pleased, and pleasantly surprised, people are once they walk through the doors.”
Ultimately, Somers Point Paddle Club hopes to offer a sense of exclusivity while still remaining an asset to the community and something the city can take pride in.
“Our goal is to create a place where people naturally gather, connect and get to know one another,” Scarborough said. “While the experience is elevated, the vibe is fun, open and genuinely friendly. We’re always pro-family, and we want this to feel like a welcoming space that brings people together and adds to the energy of the community.”
