Atlantic City Electric announced the expansion of the Atlantic City Electric Customer Relief Fund in collaboration with nonprofit partner SHARES. An additional $500,000 will be added to the existing fund to support customers across South Jersey, bringing the total amount of customer assistance available through the fund to $4.5 million in the past year. The contribution comes from Exelon, Atlantic City Electric’s parent company, and will be provided to eligible customers in the form of one-time grants of up to $500, up from $300 previously. Previous recipients will automatically receive the difference from the original $300, up to $500, credited to their account.
“We know rising energy supply costs are putting real strain on families, especially during these cold winter months,” said Tyler Anthony, President and CEO of Pepco Holdings. “Our goal is to be a steady source of support that our customers can count on, not just in moments of need, but as part of a long-term commitment to affordability and reliability. Since launching the Atlantic City Electric Customer Relief Fund last year, thousands of New Jersey residents have received assistance, and with this expanded contribution, we’re helping even more customers manage today’s challenges while continuing work toward a future where energy remains reliable and accessible for all.”
“Organizations like SHARES are often the first lifeline for families when costs rise,” said Cheryl Stowell, CEO of SHARES. “With this additional funding and our partnership with Atlantic City Electric, we can expand assistance to families challenged by rising energy costs.”
How the Customer Relief Fund Works
Atlantic City Electric and SHARES are working closely to provide limited and moderate-income residents with meaningful relief in the coming months, as customers will likely see an increase in their energy bills driven by colder weather and increasing energy supply costs as energy demands rise and supply is not there to meet it.
The fund is open to active, limited income customers who are income qualified for federal and state energy assistance programs and have at least $250 in arrearages. Moderate income customers who meet certain income eligibility requirements may also be eligible for support. Approved grants will be credited to the customer’s Atlantic City Electric account.
