As we get closer to ringing in the New Year, it’s time to start planning how you’re going to celebrate. Of course, here in South Jersey, the real party begins on New Year’s Day with the many Polar Bear Plunges our shore towns host. To help you get ready to ring in the new year with a splash, we’ve put together a list of all the notable Polar Bear Plunges happening this year, with times and locations included. So, pick one, grab your comfiest robe, maybe a few drinks for liquid courage, and get ready to take a dip in the freezing cold Atlantic Ocean to ring in 2026.
Tropicana Polar Bear Plunge
To benefit local nonprofit Heart of Surfing, Tropicana in Atlantic City is hosting a Polar Bear Plunge at noon. Plan to arrive about 15 minutes early and head to the beach in front of Tropicana. Participation is $10 and includes hot chocolate. Dress up, get festive, and get ready to dunk.
Margate Polar Bear Plunge
Margate’s annual plunge is hosted by Robert’s Place at the beach near the Margate Fishing Pier on Essex Avenue. Head down for a noon plunge, with pre- and post-plunge festivities at Robert’s Place. This plunge benefits the Wounded Warrior Project.
Ventnor Polar Bear Plunge & Winter Festival
The Ventnor Business Association is hosting both a plunge and a winter festival, making it fun for the whole family, even those non-plungers. Head to St. James at noon for food trucks, inflatables, and music. The plunge kicks off at 1 p.m., with festivities continuing at St. James until 4 p.m.
Atlantic City Polar Bear Plunge
Hosted by Resorts Casino and benefiting Cancer Support Community, this plunge takes place on the beach in front of LandShark Bar & Grill at noon. Brave the icy dip, then warm up afterwards with drinks and fun all around town.
Brigantine Polar Bear Plunge
Join the fun in Brigantine at the 16th and 17th Street beaches for a Fisher House Foundation fundraiser starting at 11 a.m., featuring a Veterans Salute and a costume contest. The plunge begins at noon, with post-plunge parties happening all around town.
Ocean City First Day Plunge
While this particular polar plunge is not for charity, it is free, fun and a classic. Head to the Music Pier on Jan. 1 to register and sign a waiver, then join the other participants on the beach adjacent to Music Pier on the Eighth Street side to prove your courage by rushing into the winter ocean at 2 p.m.
Whether you’re plunging for charity, tradition, or just bragging rights, there’s no better way to kick off the New Year at the shore than by taking the icy leap. Just don’t forget a towel, a change of clothes, and something warm to toast to a fresh start once you’re back on dry land. Cheers to the New Year, and happy dipping!
