When crisis hit, my team had my back

From the Editor

Two weeks ago, my whole world was shaken yet again when my father, Charles Christy passed away suddenly. The outpouring of love was nothing short of incredible. I am so thankful for the support and encouragement I’ve received from friends and loved ones near and far over the last two weeks. This past Saturday, we held a beautiful memorial service and celebration of his life.

As I found myself buried in grief and funeral planning, I was also humbled in gratitude for the incredible people that we can count on to call our team. Our Shore Local team is filled with dozens of helping hands, all of whom worked together to make sure our family-owned publication didn’t miss a beat.

Stories were submitted and edited on time, and our delivery team stood on stand-by to fill newsstands throughout South Jersey. Our digital team worked hard, updating our website, and social media platforms. To my relief, everything got done with the bare minimum needed on my part as I dealt with the loss of my father.

I remember a time when our team wasn’t quite as big, and a tragic family loss would require me to work relentlessly through my tears so we could keep our growing business alive. This week, I was thankful to feel so confident in our incredibly reliable and talented crew that allowed me to be fully present with my family during this time. To sweeten the gratitude pot further, our non-profit organization, Heart of Surfing, also functioned flawlessly with the help of our all-volunteer staff who offer recreational activities for those with autism and developmental disabilities.

Life is full of unexpected moments that knock you on your back and leave you scrambling to find your way back to your feet, but if you can find a bit of hope and a dose of gratitude along the way, sometimes it’s all you need to keep going.

Today, as I am still deeply saddened by the loss of my father, I am also thankful for so much, especially you! Your readership keeps us showing up week after week. Even through the thick of life, it gives us something to look forward to every Thursday.

As you flip through these pages, I encourage you to find a little something to be thankful for as well. Be sure to check out our advertisers on each page. These businesses are the cornerstones of our community and we are thankful for their support.

We are also thankful for the opportunity to tell and share the stories of our community. You inspire us every day to care more, be more and do more to support all that’s local.

Next week, we will print one day early, on Wednesday, Nov. 22, in advance of Thanksgiving.

Wishing you and your family a wonderful week!

Peace & Love,
Cindy
