We Live in an Incredible Community

From the Editor

Summer has arrived at the Jersey Shore. Memorial Day Weekend was nothing short of spectacular. Between the celebratory traditions that returned at 100 percent after a two-year hiatus, and the Memorial Day parades and ceremonies, it was perfect.

It is in the midst of this excitement that I am reminded of what an incredible community we live in. So many people and organizations came together to make last weekend’s festivities possible.

Most are run by volunteers, giving of their time and talents. When I was a kid, I didn’t know how much of the adults’ time, planning and energy go into making community events what they are. I now know and appreciate that it is the people’s love for their communities that upholds these traditions and begins new ones.

Nick Regine and Carmen Marotta are two such people who have changed the landscape of Somers Point in many ways.

Regine began the beach concerts in Somers Point, a tradition that I can’t imagine summer without. Carmen Marotta, like his father before him, brought music and entertainment in our area to a new level. Read their interview on Page 40.

Also be sure to check out the photo galleries of Ocean City, Margate, Egg Harbor Township, Linwood and Absecon all upholding their Memorial Day traditions and observances.

Amphibious boats landing on our shores are certainly something we don’t see every day. Read about how that came to be on Page 24.

Atlantic City continues to take steps to diversify its entertainment. Most recently ShowBoat opened a state-of-the-art indoor go-kart track. (Page 8)

I have to admit I can’t wait to try it.

The winds of change are blowing as Orsted continues to build the infrastructure for windmills off our coasts. Recently the Greater Atlantic PR Council hosted an information session with Orsted representatives. You can read about that on Page 6.

We also recognize and thank all the workers that put in long hours creating the products, services and amenities that make the Jersey Shore such a great place to live and visit.
