On February 9, the members of VFW Post 1963 donated $10,000 to the 2024 Mike’s Seafood Run-Walk for Autism, which benefits autism charities.
The check for $10,000 was personally presented to Mike Monichetti, the owner of Mike’s Seafood Market and Dockside Restaurant, located in Sea Isle City’s historic Fish Alley.
According to Mr. Monichetti, he and his wife, Jeannie, both help organize and host the annual fundraiser – and they are both very appreciative of the donation.
“We are extremely grateful to everyone at VFW Post 1963 not only for supporting our Run Walk for Autism, but also for supporting our community in many ways through the years,” he said. “Here in Sea Isle City, everyone comes together, helps each other out, and is always there for each other – and this is a fine example of that! There is no greater shore town than Sea Isle City, because we always have each other’s backs.”
“The purpose of the VFW is to support our nation’s veterans and our surrounding community,” said Post 1963 Commander Joe McLenaghan, who organized the check presentation on February 9. “We had a great response from the people of our community during our VFW’s recent annual drive, and we have been very fortunate that our canteen has been profitable in recent times. Plus, we have received outside donations from businesses and organizations, and we want to put that money to good use. We are so pleased to be able to support the Autism Run and Walk because of the tremendous work that is accomplished through that organization.”
“With this amazing donation, we are going to be able to help a lot of people with disabilities – thanks to the generosity of the wonderful members of VFW Post 1963,” added Mr. Monichetti. “Any day you can do something for children with disabilities, it’s a good day!”
