Edward Garvey of Mays Landing received first place and Best of Show honors for his oil painting, “Lake Como, Italy,” in the 57th annual New Jersey Senior Citizens Art Show held in West Windsor, New Jersey on October 12.
Garvey was one of three Atlantic County winners in the statewide contest. Barbara Leiby of Brigantine received honorable mention for her watercolor painting and Susan Irland of Egg Harbor Township also received honorable mention for her acrylic painting. Garvey and Leiby were entered as non-professionals while Irland competed among professional artists.
The statewide juried show included first place winners from each of the individual county senior art shows held earlier in the year and included 12 from Atlantic County.
Residents 60 years of age and older participated in Atlantic County’s 44th annual senior citizens art show and exhibit May 22 to June 18 in the Ventnor branch of the Atlantic County Library System. Professional and non-professional artists competed in a variety of categories including acrylic, craft, digital imagery, mixed media, oil, pastel, photography, drawing/print, sculpture and water color.
