Today is the Rhythm and Blues Preservation Society Founder’s Day! On December 18, 2018, Mr. Perry Thompson completed his official paperwork to create a nonprofit music society in honor of his Mother and love for Rhythm and Blues music and Black music culture. He has fond memories growing up in Jamaica, Queens listening to WBLS 107.5 FM on the radio with his Mother after school after enduring bullying from classmates about his vision impairment from birth. Listening to Soul/R&B music soothed his mind and soul along with the comforting words from his Mom to keep going and persevere and stay strong in dealing with the bullies.
“I found refuge in listening to the radio with my Mom as a child after enduring bullying from classmates. My Mom taught me to press on no matter what. She encouraged my passion for music and taught me so much about Rhythm and Blues, Jazz, and Soul music. I was empowering for me to spend those moments with her which led me to apply for LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing and Visual Arts “The Fame School” in Manhattan to study Voice and Piano,” Mr. Perry Thompson, CEO/Founder of the Rhythm and Blues Preservation Society
Mr. Perry Thompson excelled greatly at LaGuardia High School and graduated in 1987 along with Jennifer Aniston (Friends) and took classes with Tichina Arnold (Everybody Hates Chris and The Neighborhood), Chaz Bono (Sonny and Cher), and Carl Anthony Payne II (Martin) just name a few.
We will celebrate the five-year journey tonight on the Official Rhythm and Blues Preservation Society Instagram Live page (@acrbpsoc) at 6 EST/5 CST sharing stories, and memories and thanking all who have supported the Rhythm and Blues Preservation Society over the last five years.
“We would like to thank every person who has supported our mission to preserve Black music culture one record at a time for the last five years. It has been a pleasure and an honor to assist Mr. Perry Thompson both as an Executive Business Consultant and VP of Marketing and Communications for the last three years. We are just getting started and so thankful for our 5th Anniversary on December 18, 2023,” says Dr. Sonja Elise Freeman aka Queen Diva, VP of Marketing and Communications/Artist-in-
