The Light with Raymond Tyler
The story of Atlantic City Mayor, Marty Small is still being written.
I challenge readers, writers and observers to find a more compelling story.
Marty Small was an Atlantic City child not that many years ago. Today Small, as Mayor, sits in the highest office Atlantic City has to offer. That shorthand story alone should inspire, motivate and encourage children of all backgrounds to achieve.
Mayor Small and his team put together a three day weekend of events (June 3, 4 and 5) to celebrate winning his first full term as Atlantic City’s Mayor. The Mayor Small Inaugural events also raised money, to go along with the wealth of inspiration found in Small’s public journey from student, to student athlete, to college basketball star, to councilman and eventually Mayor.
So far without all the funds being counted yet Small’s weekend of inaugural events have raised over $500,000 all of which are promised to local youth organizations.
The inaugural events started on Friday evening June 3 with an all Black Party at Harrah’s.
A few hundred people came out to enjoy an evening of dancing and social interaction.
June 4th More than 700 attendees celebrated Atlantic City Mayor Marty Small Sr. ‘s inauguration at his “Together We Rise” Inaugural Gala, held at Harrah’s Resort Atlantic City on Saturday, June 4, 2022. Tickets to the high-profile charity fundraiser sold out, and an after party featured a special guest appearance by nine-time Grammy Award-winning artist Mary J. Blige.
While Mayor Small had announced a goal of raising $500,000 with the gala, that target was exceeded, with the charity event raising over $536,000 for several Atlantic City youth organizations. One hundred percent of the gala’s proceeds went to the Greater Atlantic City Youth Association, Inc., a non-profit that will provide the funds to the Atlantic City Dolphins, Atlantic City Police Athletic League, Boys & Girls of Club of Atlantic City, Empowerment Tools Coalition, and Omega by the Sea Foundation.
The black-tie gala kicked off with a ribbon-cutting ceremony including the mayor, his family, and executives from Harrah’s Resort, which was followed by a red carpet entrance for VIPs, local dignitaries, and members of the community.
“It’s been an honor and a privilege to raise this much money to support the youth in Atlantic City,” said Atlantic City Mayor Marty Small Sr. “I made it clear from the start that this would not be a political event, but rather a fundraiser. To have raised more than $536,000 for the children of our great city shows what can happen when great people work together for the good of Atlantic City and its future. Together, we will rise indeed.”
Sunday June 5th capped off the weekend with The Great Day Party at Harrah’s Pool featuring Angela Yee of The Breakfast Club Morning Show heard world-wide and broadcasting out of the Power 105 FM studios in New York City.
Thanks to Marty Small many of the local Atlantic City youth organizations that gave him opportunities and access will now have many more dollars for future athletes, politicians and other youth that dream big.
