Thoughts from the Bookshelf

Tuesday, September 3 from 3pm to 4pm

Join Thoughts from the Bookshelf Facilitator Pat Goldstein and Village Community Specialist Tina Serota for a book club gathering. This month, the group will discuss the book, Long Island, by Colm Toibin. The New York Times bestseller and critically acclaimed intense novel intertwines secrecy, misunderstandings, love, and longings unfilled and even unrecognized. Positivity Project Joins The Mindful Movers

Wednesday, September 4, 11, 18, and 25 from 9am to 10am each day

Start your day in an upbeat way! Join Village Community Specialist Tina Serota as she explores mindfulness, gratitude, and meditation followed by a stroll with friends and neighbors on the Ventnor boardwalk. Care for your mind, spirit, and body. Program begins at the park behind the Ventnor Library between South Newport & South New Haven Avenues. RSVP the Monday prior to each walk. 

 

Village Film Society

Tuesday, September 10 from 10:30am to 11:30am

Join Village Film Enthusiast & Historic Cinematic Buff Tom Celandine and Village Community Specialist Tina Serota for a discussion about the Academy award-nominated docudrama, Good Night, and Good Luck, starring George Clooney and Jeff Daniels. Set in 1953 America during the Cold War, the film focuses on the theme of media responsibility and also addresses what occurs when journalism offers voices of dissent from government policy. The movie can be viewed on Amazon Prime, Apple TV, Google Play, YouTube, and is available at the Ventnor and Margate Libraries. Art Comes Alive: Controversial Work That Changed Art History

Monday, September 16 from 10:30am to 12pm

Join us as local award-winning artist, Shirley Belitsky, explores controversial artists and their work. Whether going boldly against artistic traditions of their time or depicting taboo topics, often the artwork and their creators were banned, panned, and publicly scorned. Women’s Coffee & Conversation: Aging Gracefully, The Mind-Body Connection

Join Village Community Specialist Tina Serota, Bratton Law Group’s Jen Hand, Katz JCC’s Bridget Giblin, Angelic Health’s Carolyn Johnson Peterson, Alzheimer’s Association’s Mary Beth Lewis, and UMC’s Michele Musto as they host professional speakers on issues that impact a woman’s ability to live her best life. As we move through adolescent, reproductive, midlife, and post-menopausal years, the inter-connectedness of the mind and body increasingly affects our overall wellbeing. As our minds and bodies begin to slow down, the world often seems like it is spinning out of control. Scientists have linked the mind-body connection through a positive mindset to lower levels of stress, improved immune function, and reduced risk of chronic diseases. Join JFS Family Life Education Supervisor Sharon Simon as she leads us on a journey of exploration and offers techniques for developing an individualized positive mindset approach. Join Village Community Specialist Tina Serota, Alzheimer’s Association’s Mary Beth Lewis, Angelic Health’s Carolyn Johnson Peterson, Bratton Law Group’s Jen Hand, UMC’s Michele Musto, and Katz JCC’s Bridget Giblin for a gathering of Caregivers of loved ones with Dementia and the person living with the disease. Caregivers will participate in a support group led by a trained professional while their loved one will enjoy a socialization activity. Light refreshments will be served. Attend in-person at the Katz JCC Boardroom, 501 North Jerome Avenue, Margate. RSVP by September 18.

Caregivers and their loved ones living with Dementia are invited to join Village and UMC representatives in a Dementia friendly space. Seminar by the Shore: Conference on Alzheimer’s and Other Dementias

Thursday, September 26 from 8:30am to 4pm

Join Village Community Specialist Tina Serota at a full-day conference for family members, caregivers, and professionals supporting people with Alzheimer’s and other dementias. The event includes breakfast, lunch, free adult daycare, resource expo to support caregivers and individuals living with the disease, educational breakout sessions with renowned experts, and CE credits for professionals.
