Thoughts from the Bookshelf

Tuesday, October 1 from 3pm to 4pm

Join Thoughts from the Bookshelf Facilitator Pat Goldstein and Village Community Specialist Tina Serota for a book club gathering. This month, the group will discuss the romance novel, You Are Here by David Nicholls. The book centers on two middle-aged protagonists who unexpectedly find themselves on a long-distance walking trail through the English countryside which becomes an unlikely impetus for a mid-life romance. Village Film Society

Tuesday, October 8 from 10:30am to 11:30am

Join Village Film Enthusiast & Historic Cinematic Buff Tom Celandine and Village Community Specialist Tina Serota for a discussion about the documentary, Will & Harper. Premiered at the Sundance Film Festival, this is an intimate story of the friendship between Actor & Comedian Will Farrell and his best friend of 30 years, former SNL Head Writer Harper Steele. They embark on a road trip to process a new stage in life and reintroduce Steele to the country she loves as her authentic self after a gender transition. The movie can be viewed on Netflix. Positivity Project Joins The Mindful Movers

Wednesday, October 9, 16, 23 & 30 from 9am to 10am each day

Start your day in an upbeat way! Join Village Community Specialist Tina Serota as she explores mindfulness, gratitude, and meditation followed by a stroll on the Ventnor boardwalk. Care for your mind, spirit, and body. Program begins at the park behind the Ventnor Library between South Newport & South New Haven Avenues. RSVP the Monday prior to each walk. 

 

Medicare Open Enrollment Workshop

Monday, October 14 from 10:30am to 11:30am

October begins the Medicare Open Enrollment Period. This is the one time per year seniors may make a change to their prescription or supplemental/advantage plans. Join JFS Village Community Specialist Tina Serota and JCC’s Bridget Giblin as they welcome Ellen Cosgrove from Hafetz and Associates for a presentation about options including Medicare Part A and Part B, Part C Advantage plans, Part D Prescription plans and supplemental coverage. Following the presentation, there will be a Q&A session. This workshop provides an opportunity to make sure everyone is informed about their Medicare plan, benefits, and the other choices available. Attend in-person at the Katz JCC Boardroom, 501 North Jerome Avenue, Margate. RSVP by October 9.

 

Lunch Around Town

Tuesday, October 15 from 12pm to 1:30pm

Experience the thrill of capturing life’s adventures, history, and ancestry with the Memoir Workshop led by award-winning author and Drexel University Director of Certificate Program in Writing and Publishing, Harriet Levin Millan. Women’s Coffee & Conversation: Advocating for Your Loved Ones

As people transition from traditional norms of private medical and societal care to large corporate options of healthcare, insurance, and other systems that may affect everyday life and wellbeing, how do we advocate for ourselves and those of our loved ones? Join Bratton Law Group’s Ann Markel-Crozier, Director of Elder Care Coordination, as she leads an interactive discussion from her professional and personal experiences. Join Village Community Specialist Tina Serota, Alzheimer’s Association’s Mary Beth Lewis, Angelic Health’s Carolyn Johnson Peterson, Bratton Law Group’s Jen Hand, UMC’s Michele Musto, and JCC’s Bridget Giblin for a gathering of Caregivers of loved ones with Dementia and the person living with the disease. Caregivers will participate in a support group led by a trained professional while their loved one will enjoy a socialization activity. Light refreshments will be served. Memory Café: Ocean City

Caregivers and their loved ones living with Dementia are invited to join Village and UMC representatives in a Dementia friendly space. Throwback Thursday

Thursday, October 31 from 10am to 11:30am

Join Board of Jewish Education Director Josh Cutler as he presents a nostalgic trip down memory lane retracing the history of the JCC from its original location on South Virginia Avenue in Atlantic City to Downbeach in the late 1950s to its most recent expansion in 2003.
