Cindy and Bob Fertsch

Cindy & Bob Fertsch, founders of Shore Local Bob was 21 years old when he began his newspaper career in South Jersey. An Ocean City summer local and surfer, Bob was thrilled to build his career, home, and family in the area he loved. He spent 15 years learning with the Press of Atlantic City, then continued growing for another 9 years with the Current. Our family grew through the years. We have been blessed with 3 beautiful children and a home in Egg Harbor Township. As the economy changed both nationally and locally, the industry began to change, as well. Large corporate companies bought up much of Atlantic County’s media outlets, including our daily paper and 2 major weekly publications. From this turmoil, Shore Local was born. We are proud to be a locally owned, homegrown publication that focuses on the people, places and events in Atlantic County, Ocean City, and Upper Township. Bob and I had a vision to build a local business that spotlights and promotes other local businesses, and here we are! When you support Shore Local, your dollars stay right here in our own communities. We are a grassroots family business with an authentic connection to the areas we spotlight, and we are proud to share our love for our shore towns with all of you. Thank you for supporting our vision, and happy reading.

Here’s to the Dads

by Cindy Fertsch | Jun 13, 2024 | Atlantic County, Blog - letters from the editor, Cape May County, Editorial, South Jersey

From the Editor Fatherhood is not for the faint of heart. I will never forget the image of my husband standing in the ultrasound room holding our young toddler, when the doctor announced our second baby wasn’t a baby, but rather babies. Yes… twins! I was truly afraid...

Where have our manners gone?

by Cindy Fertsch | Jun 6, 2024 | Atlantic County, Blog - letters from the editor, Cape May County, Editorial, South Jersey

From the Editor “Where are your manners?” my mother would exclaim if I got out of line as a child. That stern reminder would jolt me back to my senses, making me realize I wasn’t acting or speaking as I should. It was a simple, yet effective way to...

Summer kicks off with Memorial Day celebrations: Honoring the fallen and embracing the fun at the Shore

by Cindy Fertsch | May 23, 2024 | Atlantic County, Blog - letters from the editor, Cape May County, Features, South Jersey

From the Editor With beach chairs and umbrellas in tow, thousands will head to the beach this Memorial Day weekend. Balls and frisbees will be tossed through the air as little ones work diligently on sandcastles, toting buckets of water up and down the sand. Merchants...

Letting go: My struggle with anxiety

by Cindy Fertsch | May 16, 2024 | Atlantic County, Blog - letters from the editor, Cape May County, Editorial, South Jersey

From the Editor With Memorial Day nearly upon us, like many, my workload has sky-rocketed. There’s to-do lists posted everywhere, dozens of sticky notes and piles of papers  on every flat surface in our home. There’s a time when this would have pushed me off the...

Being a mother is the hardest job there is

by Cindy Fertsch | May 9, 2024 | Atlantic County, Blog - letters from the editor, Cape May County, Editorial, South Jersey

From the Editor It’s hard to really fathom just how much your mother loves you until that moment when you become a parent yourself. When I was a little girl, my mom was my world. Her attention and approval were the treasures my heart desired. I loved to draw...
