Stockton Celebrates Four Decades of Performing Handel’s ‘Messiah’ on Dec. 8

For four decades, the Stockton University Oratorio Society has performed a production of Handel’s “The Messiah” for the public.

The performance, featuring nearly 200 singers from throughout the region, will raise their voices again at the Event Center at the Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa in Atlantic City at 7 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 8.

Tickets are now available for the joyous holiday presentation of George Frederic Handel’s Christmas portion of the masterpiece, which is performed every other year under the direction of Beverly Vaughn, professor of Music and director of the Stockton Choral program, which is comprised of the Stockton Oratorio Society and other vocal groups at Stockton.

The 17th biennial performance includes Stockton students, community members and several local choirs, groups and singers from throughout the Greater Delaware Valley.

“I’m so excited for this year’s ‘Messiah’ performance as it marks the 40th year that Stockton has been involved with presenting this holiday classic,” Vaughn said. “It’s going to be bigger and better than ever before!”

The Stockton Oratorio Society community choir, formerly known as the Stockton Chorale, was founded by Dr. Leonard Klein in the early 1970s. From the very beginning, the non-auditioned choir has been composed of both students and the community who join together to present outstanding choral music in performances in an inclusive, supportive environment.

Tickets are $15 general admission and $12 for seniors, military members, Stockton students, alumni, faculty and staff and those 12 and under.

They can be purchased online, in person at the Stockton Performing Arts Center box office in Galloway or on the phone at 609-652-9000. The PAC box office is open Tuesday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tickets can also be purchased in person at the Borgata box office, 1 Borgata Way, Atlantic City.
