Stacey’s Surf Camp is celebrating its 15th Summer of inspiring new and experienced surfers to have fun while challenging themselves to learn new skills and reach their surfing goals. Stacey’s Surf Camp focuses on empowering each participant with the proper skills, ocean knowledge, safety awareness and self confidence in a supportive, friendly environment.
The camp, located on Pembroke Avenue beach in Margate, is structured for kids to learn at their own pace. For the younger kids (ages 6 &7) Stacey offers a 2-hour, 3 day a week program which introduces surfing in a positive, playful and safe atmosphere. The instructors are extremely attentive to any fears and hesitations they may have. The kids play games, make friends and feel very secure before entering the water.
The beginner/Intermediate camp covers ocean safety, nutrition, conditioning, popping up, balance, reading waves, tides and wind, surf etiquette and so much more Some kids love Surf Camp so much they end up signing up for a week and then end up staying all summer!
The advanced camp is for kids who are ready to take their surfing to the next level. They have their own equipment, can paddle out, catch waves on their own, and want to be challenged. Coached by pro-surfer Cassidy McClain and Rocco Mahoney on a daily basis, participants improve their skills and take their surfing to the next level.
In addition to healthy exercise and being outdoors, kids make new friends, learn ocean safety and enjoy a new sport. Private, semiprivate and group lessons are also available by appointment.
“Surfing has taught me how to overcome my fears and has given me a deeper level of appreciation for the ocean and all its power,” shared owner, Stacey Alper. “It offers me great physical challenges and provides a spiritual happiness that I hadn’t encountered before. The lessons I learn in the water better prepare me to accept and embrace life’s waves.”
Since Stacey herself learned to surf as an adult, she prides herself on sharing this experience with other adults. As a women owned business, she is extremely passionate about the Wednesday Women’s surf night. Nearly every Wednesday night of the summer (times vary due to tides & conditions) you will find Stacey and her instructors on Pembroke Ave. beach empowering a group of beginners to advanced women to push through boundaries. Together they wipe out and catch waves while laughing and hooting and hollering with pure joy in the ocean. It is always a good time and a magical bonding experience between like minded women. Some of the women have said “I look forward to Wednesday night more than a Saturday night”, “So awesome to see women supporting women”, “Can’t wait for next week” , “Sign me up every Wednesday.”
Some of the ladies loved Women’s Surf night so much that they wanted to share this experience with the males in their lives. In response, Stacey introduced Awesome Adult night and this time the men were invited. Every Tuesday night (times vary due to tides & conditions) you can find men and women catching waves, learning something new and having some laughs.
Stacey also offers a Stand up Paddle program on the bay at 9511 Amherst Ave. Margate. Stand up paddle guided tours of the back bay will be offered Thursday through Sunday and private and group lessons by appointment.
