Shore Medical Center announced today that Emmy Arroyo-Cruz, RN, a nurse on its 5 Hayes Unit, has been named the April Guardian Angel of the Month for delivering compassionate and outstanding patient care. The Guardian Angel program was created by Shore to give community members a meaningful way to express their gratitude to a special caregiver through a donation made in their honor.

Arroyo-Cruz began her career at Shore Medical Center in 2018 as a nurse aide on 5 Hayes. While working full-time in that role, she also attended school full-time to earn her nursing degree, which she completed in 2021.

Kelly Duma, RN, BSN, NE-BC, nurse manager of 5 Hayes, describes Arroyo-Cruz as the ideal employee. “From her days as a nurse aide to her current role as an RN, her dedication has never wavered. She is professional, intelligent, and deeply committed to her patients, the organization, and her colleagues on 5 Hayes. Emmy is consistently kind and supportive to both patients and their families. She regularly goes above and beyond in her care and demonstrates strong clinical skills. Watching Emmy grow into the exceptional nurse she is today has been one of the greatest joys of my career.”

The family of a patient Arroyo-Cruz cared for recently made a Guardian Angel donation to the medical center in her honor, and had this to say about her:

“Emmy was very kind and committed to giving excellent care to our 100-year-old father and she did it with such empathy. Emmy being bilingual is such an asset to the hospital. Having someone who understands our culture & values is a huge advantage in the kind of care that one receives.”

Outside of work, Arroyo-Cruz, who resides in Pleasantville, is actively involved in the community and her church, and is dedicated to her family and husband.

Shore Medical Center’s Guardian Angel program provides an opportunity for patients and families for patients and families to recognize anyone at Shore who makes a difference in their care or experience. Guardian Angels are recognized among their peers and presented with a Guardian Angel pin at Shore’s annual pinning ceremony.
