Seashore Gardens Living Center seniors enjoy baking class

Director of Recreation Missy Rundio led a baking class at Seashore Gardens Living Center August 9 with a special family recipe for zucchini cake from her mother.

The group modified the recipe, substituting chocolate chips for walnuts and raisins. They shared jokes and stories, including how their grandmothers would never write out a full recipe. There was always something that wasn’t on the card, so it became a family effort to try and remember how to make it.

They discussed the differences between zucchini bread and zucchini cake, ultimately deciding that cake must have more sugar. They also learned the difference between an angel food cake pan and a Bundt cake pan.  Residents enjoyed the zucchini cake as an afternoon snack.

The baking program is a popular activity at Seashore Gardens Living Center, and one of many that the residents can access during their stay.
