Real Estate House Tour: Somewhere in Time

It has long been considered prestigious to live along Shore Road, where the homesteads of many of the original settlers, ship captains and founding families purchased their land and property so many years ago.

In the 1860’s horse and carriage and railroad were the form of transportation. The Mainland Town of Northfield was originally known as Bakersville and Dolphin as a portion of Egg Harbor Township, Atlantic County, founded in 1710. On March 21, 1905, the city of Northfield was incorporated and became known as “The Gateway To The Shore.”

Some research was done and a deed showed that in 1867, Joseph Ireland transferred property from his original homestead to Hezakiakh Ireland on which a family home was built in 1897 and it is now the home located at 1007 Shore Road Northfield, New Jersey 08225.

Some 124 years later, this home stands tall in all of it’s beauty, grace, glory and historical significance. That same year, the Atlantic City Country Club and golf course was being built across the street.  By adding the Shore Fast Line Trolly which was then the frequent convenient form of transportation to and from Atlantic City and along Shore Road and to Ocean City, there was then quite a building boom.

Only a very few well preserved homes from the era are still with us today. This 4 bedroom, 2 1/2 bath, two story, traditional home has a formal living room with the original refinished hardwood floors with mahogany inset detail.

It also has sunroom with french doors, first floor den or 4th bedroom, formal dining room with hardwood flooring, a bright eat-in kitchen, and a screened in porch room overlooking the backyard.

This home is perfect for year round entertaining! The lovely “Garden Room” was the host for many of the local Ladies Garden and Horticulture Club meetings to discuss flowers and plants for each season for many years. The Second Floor has three spacious bedrooms and Two Full Baths including the Owner’s Suite, private full bath and dressing room and a balcony overlooking the backyard and terrace.

It has been said that actress, Lauren Hutton’s mother had lived and stayed in the master bedroom of the home for a time many years ago. In addition there is a huge walk up third floor attic. There is a circular drive in front of the home and a terrace street in back for plenty of off street parking plus a detached garage workshop that was the original carriage house for the home.

This home and property is truly a magnificent piece of Northfield and Atlantic County history with lots of historical significance and  grandeur of yesteryear!

The current owners have lovingly maintained, enjoyed and restored this vintage home and are ready to sell.  This one of a kind home was originally offered for sale at $328,900 and it is now offered at an even more affordable price of $285,000.
