Locals have favorite neighborhood bakeries where things haven’t changed in 25, 50, or 100 years, but Jenna Kisby owner of Kizbees Kitchen a new hip bakery that combines favorite flavors to create sublime desserts that are completely gluten-free with custom vegan options has changed the way people view gluten-free and vegan sweets.  Who even heard of gluten (or the lack thereof) a decade ago? The estimated 1.3 percent of the population who had  celiac disease, which is the inability to digest gluten, did, but public awareness at that time was minimal.  Today nearly 30 million people have given up gluten because they have gluten sensitivity or celiac disease, but no one wants to give up bread, cake, pizza and all the Awesome foods of the past.  And, hey, there’s no need to give up anything… except the gluten.

Kizbees Kitchen offers an impressive display of completely gluten-free treats-including cupcakes, cookies, loaves, donuts, muffins, and bread—utilizing unique ingredients to satisfy those with and without food allergies. These are options that taste as good as their traditional counterparts and are on-hand everyday (closed on Thursday’s) at Kizbees Kitchens brick and mortar location on the White Horse Pike in Galloway. On weekends during the summer you can find Kisby’s sweets at Margate Community, Longport, Brigantine and Galloway Farmers markets.  The biggest temptations for me is her peanut butter pie and fig loaf.  You can order my favorites and custom vegan treats 24 hours in advance. I highly suggest ordering ahead of Time, Kisby  sells out of her treats as quickly as she bakes them.

The reality of the baking profession is far from the romantic image many have of a baker in the kitchen whipping up sweet confections. Baking is also a physically demanding job, requiring constant standing, attention to detail to ensure that ingredients are properly measured out, creativity and skill with expensive mixers and other equipment. Baking is Kisby’s   passion, she isn’t bothered by the  pressure or the late nights and early mornings, to ensure that her tasty pies, loaves, cakes and breads are out before the first customers walk-in.

Kizbees Kitchen has successfully Dispelled the myth that “gluten-free” is synonymous with “tasteless,” this bakery churns out delicious goodies that are as good as—if not better than—the real thing. Trust me, you won’t miss the wheat, but don’t take my word for it try it yourself.
