Brigantine Polar Plunge 2018  Saturday, January 13th at 12pm Laguna Rum Bar  1400 Ocean Ave. Brigantine residents, merchants and visitors will celebrate the New Year with the 18th annual Polar Bear Plunge. The event has grown from a local event into a major fundraising effort benefiting Fisher House, a top-rated charity that provides housing and transportation to wounded military members and their families. Last year’s event had more than 1,000 swimmers, 6,000 spectators and raised more than $70,000 for Fisher House. The day’s events begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday, January 13th with live music, refreshments, color guard and official merchandise for sale.
The Plunge, which is free and open to the public, has become a popular tradition with both locals and visitors to Brigantine and takes place at noon. Participants are encouraged to wear costumes with prizes awarded to the best costumes.
The swim is followed by a post-plunge party at the Laguna Grill 1400 Ocean Ave. Food will be available for purchase. Adult & soft beverages will be available through Laguna Grill & Rum Bar. There will be live entertainment featuring The Amish Outlaws & The Billy Walton Band! 
The Brigantine Polar Bear Plunge, organized and operated by the Brigantine Polar Bears, A NJ 501c3 Non Profit Corporation, raises funds through clothing and calendar sales, sponsorships and contributions.

Dr. King Read-In Saturday, January 13th at 1pm at the Atlantic City Free Public Library Phone: 609-345-2269 ext. 3050The Atlantic City Free Public Library will celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., with its Fourth Annual MLK Read-In on Saturday, January 13, 2018, at 1:00 PM at the Main Library.
Special guests and Atlantic City Free Public Library staff members are scheduled to read some of Dr. King’s work and stories inspired by him. Also, the program will feature musical interludes by the Atlantic City High School Choir.

Watercolor Workshop Sunday, January 14th from 3-5pm at the Noyes Art Garage  2200 Fairmount Ave. Atlantic City. Have you ever wanted to try watercolor painting? Here’s your chance! Enjoy the wonderful world of watercolor in this fun and relaxing class. Beginners and explorers welcome. Bring your own photo or work from a still life.
Class fee: $30
Class fee includes:

– FREE parking in the attached Wave Parking Garage.
Bring your own supplies or supplies provided for just $5 extra.

Stockton University MLK Day of Service Monday, January 15th starting at 8am, 101 Vera King Ferris Dr. Galloway. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service Monday, January 15th from 9am – 12pm Stainton Senior Center  17th & Simpson Ave. Ocean City. Contribute in a morning of service where you can participate in a city-wide clean-up from 9:00am-12:00pm. Sign up, supply distribution and lunch will take place at the Howard S. Martin Luther King Day Indoor Flea Market Monday, January 15th from 10am – 3pm at the Alder Avenue Middle School  25 Alder Avenue, Egg Harbor Township. Vendors and community members will be on-hand selling crafts, goods and gently-used items.  You can also help by bringing your gently-worn of new coats between 9am – 3pm for the Warm Coats & Warm Hearts partnership program with Burlington Coat Factory OR bring a non-perishable food donation.  Proceeds benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters of Atlantic County, Atlantic City Rescue Mission, Let Us Eat Please, Pet Pantry and Warm Coats & Warm Hearts/Burlington Coat Factory.

JR’s Fresh Market Clothing Drive Monday, January 15th from 11:30am – 6pm at JR’s Fresh Market  3121 Fire Rd. Egg Harbor Township.  Cleaning out your closets to make room for all your new additions? Foghat Saturday, January 20th at 8pm at the Tropicana Showroom, Tickets start at $45, Phone: 609-340-4000, Foghat is an English rock band formed in 1971. The band is known for the use of the electric slide guitar in their music.

Indoor Auto Racing Friday, January 26th & Saturday, January 27th at Boardwalk Hall, Tickets: $5-35, Phone: 609-888-3618, The two days of racing are highlighted by the running of the 16th annual TQ Midget Gambler’s Classic Saturday night. Last year’s thriller ended in a photo finish between Erick Rudolph of Ransomville, N.Y., and Zane Zeiner of Bath, Pa. Rudolph won by inches, claiming his third victory in the prestigious race. The schedule calls for racing to start at 7:30 pm on Friday and 7 pm on Saturday.

Orientinteering Saturday, January 13th from 11am-3pm at Atlantic County Park in Estell Manor  109 State Highway Route 50 Three mile orienteering course through the woods. We provide the instructions, maps and a loaner compass. A basic course for the beginner and an intermediate course for the experienced or more adventurous are offered. Please specify course when registering. Children under 13 must have an adult with them. Standard tick precautions are recommended.
