Tune In, Turn On

Jordan’s Cancer Journey Fundraiser a Success: The first snow event of 2024 didn’t deter a large, diverse crowd from attending Jordan’s Cancer Journey Fundraiser last Saturday night at both the Tennessee Avenue Beer Hall and Rhythm and Spirits in Atlantic City’s Orange Loop district.
“Thank you all for taking the time to support my family in our time of need,” said area music/420 lifestyle events Norstep Productions promoter Stephen Weiss who, along with promoting partner Noranne Thompson, are the parents of area teen Jordan Thompson, whom the fundraiser benefitted.
“But it was far more than (just) a fundraiser,” Weiss said. “It was a family reunion. The Weiss family was in attendance. And there were friends and family from every single step on this Norstep journey in attendance and that was beyond words. And in all of that beauty was the most beautiful smile I’ve ever seen on my baby girl’s face. I love you Jordan. I love you Noranne.
“Approximately five thousand dollars was raised at the fundraiser, not including all the donations received prior,” Weiss added. “It takes a village, so special thanks also to Jim Paynter, Randy Paynter, Vinny Marone (event flier), Angela Volz, Colleen Nola, Larry Heid, Melissa Lahner Reichman, Michelle Tomko, David J. Bailey, Mike Spagnola, Alexa Quaranta-Kelly, Mike Collins, Jack Donelly and apologies to anyone we missed.”
Beach Rave All-Stars Winter Classic Dance Party at Anchor: Atlantic City’s underground is emerging from our recent snowdrift to bring the heat! The legends of Crystal Beach are rolling up to the Anchor Rock Club in AC this Saturday, Jan. 27 (10 p.m., $13.) with a fire lineup of Beach Rave All-Stars for the first dance party of 2024. DJs Dubl Deez, Saturn Daze, Big Body Kito, DJ Skyline, C-Bazz, Samwas, and Captain Cork will be there. There’s Immersive VJ Visuals by Portle and Double Vision and Live Flow Art by Groovin’ Embers.
“Our first party of 2024 is dedicated to all the lunatics and renegades who’ve made our Beach Rave Fever dream possible,” says Tina Notaro (pictured above), whose Noetrope Productions produces regular events in Atlantic City and beyond.
“The only thing that keeps a scene alive is the people who show up for it…never take these good times and late nights for granted.” Wise words.
Elsewhere/Looking Ahead: One of the most dynamic forces in blues, vocalist Shemekia Copeland, pays a very special visit to the Lizzie Rose Music Room in Tuckerton this Thursday, Jan. 25, but by the time you read this, it might be sold out, so move quickly if you want to buy tickets. Area music fans might remember Copeland’s excellent show last summer in Atlantic City at Kennedy Plaza on the Boardwalk, one of the many great Mardi Gras AC Concerts presented by Carmen and Nancy Marotta.
Copeland can also be heard daily on SiriusXM Radio, where she hosts a blues show…Zeek Mitchell and Camille K of killer David Bowie tribute HaZy Cosmic Jive play together as a duo at Josie Kelly’s in Somers Point on Friday, Feb. 2, at 8 p.m…. Roost Pub and Grill in EHT presents Chris Yoder Duo this Friday, Jan. 26. Enjoy music (usually solo or duets, nothing really loud, perfect for a date night and dining) weekly there 6:30-9:30 p.m., with no cover…one of AC’s newest late-night haunts, Good Dog Bar on Atlantic Ave. is now presenting live music every Friday and Saturday night, with Glenn Roberts there this Friday, Jan. 26, and Petty Cash Duo performing the night after Saturday, Jan. 27.
Until next time…
