It All Starts with the Ring

By Cindy Christy Fertsch

The circular shape of a ring is the universal sign of eternal love.

The engagement ring stands for the promise to marry, symbolizing love and commitment. It is the first step in an exciting journey towards the wedding of your dreams and a life built together.

“The most important thing when selecting an engagement ring or wedding band is to rely on a trusted jeweler to guide you through the process,” says Harvey Rovinsky of Bernie Robbins Jewelers. “This is something that will be cherished for a lifetime. You want it to get it right. Knowledge is power and a jeweler can explain why one diamond is more valuable than another.”

One of Rovinsky’s favorite engagement stories is that of a customer who was selecting a ring for his loved one stationed overseas. They arranged shipment and a video was taken of her opening the package and seeing the ring for the first time. “It was a real Hallmark moment,” recalls Rovinsky.

The classic engagement ring is still the most popular. This single solitaire setting featuring a center diamond and simple band is timeless. Alternatives include rose and yellow metals, and sapphires and rubies for those who want something less traditional. Men’s engagement rings are coming into vogue as well.
