Is Your Home Ready for Winter?

Tips from Jenkins Heating and Plumbing

Safe and efficient heat is important to us all. With Old Man Winter knocking at our door, homeowners should be sure their family will be comfortable through the next few months. The freezing temperatures of winter test our home’s heaters and plumbing.

Now is the time to take steps to ensure your heating system is safe and running well,” said Jeff Jenkins of Jenkins Plumbing, Heating and Air conditioning. “It’s essential that heaters are checked and tuned each year as part of your home’s winterization each year”

Jenkins is a staple in Atlantic County. The family owned business was founded in 1949 by John Jenkins Sr. Today, it is are owned and operated by his son Jeff Jenkins Sr along with his grandson, Jeff Jenkins Jr.  Based in Pleasantville, they service all Atlantic County, northern Cape May County, Long Beach Island and Vineland. With years and years of experience and expertise behind them, here are their top winterizing suggestions.

  1. Unhook hoses from outdoor hydrants
  2. Winterize outdoor showers and exposed pipes in the crawlspace
  3. Have sprinkler systems professionally blown out.
  4. Service your heater every year – a cracked heat exchanger can cause carbon monoxide in your home
  5. Check condensate drains on high efficiency heaters
  6. Be sure to have at least one Carbon Monoxide detector in your home. Change their batteries every year, along with your smoke detectors.
  7. Have your water heater professionally checked. Many are not vented correctly which can cause a risk the unit to back-draft into the home.
