The Sara and Sam Schoffer Holocaust Resource Center at Stockton University will commemorate Yom HaShoah or Holocaust Remembrance Day on April 24 with a program featuring Holocaust survivor Michael Bar-Zohar, a renowned scholar, author and historian, as the keynote speaker.
The program remembers the 6 million Jewish victims of the Holocaust and will be held in person at Shirat Hayam, 700 North Swarthmore Ave., in Ventnor at 6 p.m. on Thursday, April 24.
Bar-Zohar is one of the most popular Israeli speakers in the United States today. When in the U.S., he speaks almost daily throughout the country for Jewish communities and synagogues, Christian groups, foreign affairs associations, universities and book clubs. He’s a working historian who has published several nonfiction books based on his own intensive research. Bar-Zohar is the official biographer of David Ben-Gurion, the founder of the state of Israel. He also wrote the biographies of Israeli President Shimon Peres and the founder of the Israeli secret services, Isser Harel. He has served two terms in the Knesset, the Israeli Parliament, as a member of Israel’s Defense and Foreign Affairs Committee and as chair of the Education and Culture Committee.
The free, community-wide commemoration will highlight Holocaust survivors in southern New Jersey and will include a memorial service. Seating is on a first-come, first-serve basis. Refreshments will be served after the service.
Funding for this program was provided by the Jewish Federation of Atlantic and Cape May Counties, the Yom HaShoah Fund of the Jewish Community Foundation and the Sara and Sam Schoffer Holocaust Resource Center at Stockton University.
