Friendly Fishing Competition at Birch Grove Park

Twenty-six young anglers converged on Birch Grove Park in Northfield Sunday, June 5, for a fun fishing competition.

The Municipal Alliance Committee, Friends of Birch Grove Park and the Northfield Police Department teamed up with the state Department of Environmental Protection to present the Get Hooked on Fishing Not on Drugs Challenge for a morning of competitive fishing that included prizes for the winners.

The largest fish was caught by Jacoby Kucera, 12, who was in town from Parker, Col., visiting his grandparents. He caught a 13.5-inch catfish.

There was a tie for smallest fish between John McClellan, 12, of Northfield, who caught a 3-inch sunny, and Brennan Rosselle, 7, of Northfield, who caught a 3-inch bluegill.

The most fish caught award went to Lexi Harris, 15 of Northfield, who caught 18 fish.

The fishing challenge involved 32 locations throughout the state.
