Four members of the Colony Club of Ocean City received top awards for their creative projects at the Southern District’s annual Spring Conference and Achievement Day, held recently at Greate Bay Country Club in Somers Point.
The winners of the first place “Gold” awards were Barbara Zarrella for her handmade quilt; Kathy Tully for her oversize holiday decoration; Phyllis Bonner for her hand-knitted shrug; and Carla Heist for her holiday tree ornament. Heist also won a “blue” award for her intricate needlepoint. In addition, Tully and Heist received the District Grand Award for their work.
All gold winners will be entered into competition at the N.J. State Federation of Women’s Clubs (NJSFWC) convention, scheduled for May 6-8 at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Atlantic City.
Participating at the Southern Regional Conference, in addition to the Colony Club, were the Woman’s Club of Absecon, Women’s Community Club of Cape May, Woman’s Civic Club of Hammonton, Millville Woman’s Club and the Woman’s Club of Vineland. Each club gave reports on the year’s activities. The Colony Club was in charge of registration.
The keynote speaker was Barbara McCloskey, NJSFWC President-Elect, who spoke on the importance of respecting the opinions of others even if we disagree with them.
