Better Together programs starts up at SGLC

Residents at Seashore Gardens Living Center (SGLC) welcomed students from the Kulanu School of Jewish Studies for the intergenerational program, Better Together on Sunday, October 22, 2023.
Better Together is a program of the Board of Jewish Education of Atlantic & Cape May Counties. It connects SGLC residents with Jewish teens from the Kulanu School of Jewish Studies, with programs centering around Jewish values.
In this initial session, the teens completed a training exercise that mimicked how it feels to have limited vision, dexterity, and mobility. This helped them to understand some of the challenges faced by their senior buddies. Then, the seniors and teens met and participated in an icebreaker activity which challenged them to identify Jewish celebrities through the ages. They also had a chance to visit with each other.
The teens from Kulanu School of Jewish Studies did some exercises to help them understand the challenges of aging. This included coloring while wearing special cloudy glasses and picking up items with gloves filled with popcorn kernels.
Students and their senior buddies enjoy some time to get to know each other.
