Atlantic City Officials Announce Preparations Ahead of Expected Snowfall in Region

City of Atlantic City Mayor Marty Small, Sr. called a news conference this afternoon, to discuss the city’s preparations as two systems are expected to move through the region in the coming days, each bringing snowfall, according to the National Weather Service. Atlantic City Department of Public Works crews were out this morning at 5:00 AM salting and brining the roads throughout the city ahead of tonight’s first expected system. Public Works, the Atlantic City Office of Emergency Management and the Atlantic City Police Department have extra staff and vehicles, including military surplus vehicles, on standby for the second system, projected to bring more significant snowfall to the region starting Sunday night into Monday.

At the request of the City of Atlantic City’s Office of Emergency Management, the New Jersey Casino Reinvestment Development Authority (CRDA) has authorized the Wave Parking Garage, located at the corner of Mississippi and Fairmount Avenues, to provide free parking for all Atlantic City residents and visitors from 12:00 PM on Sunday, January 5, 2025 through 12:00 PM on Tuesday, January 8, 2025. The free parking is on the second floor of the garage.

Atlantic City is currently under a Code Blue through at least 8:00 AM on Thursday, January 9, 2025 with temperatures forecasted to drop below 32 degrees at times during this period. During a Code Blue, the Atlantic City Rescue Mission opens its doors to all who need shelter and food. The Atlantic City Police Department, as available, provides transportation to the Atlantic City Rescue Mission.

The City of Atlantic City urges residents and visitors to avoid unnecessary travel during and immediately after any heavy snowfall and to use extra caution when on the roadways this weekend. This includes traveling at a slower speed and keeping distance between other vehicles on the road, especially snow plows and emergency vehicles. Atlantic City residents can sign up for AC Alerts – Atlantic City’s emergency notification system – at www.acnj.gov to receive text and email updates throughout the weekend.
