Atlantic Christian Scout Troop 389 Places Flags for Jewish War Vets at Beth Kehilla Cemetery

EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP – Ahead of the Memorial Day holiday, scouts from Boy Scout Troop 389 placed American flags on May 22 at the graves of Jewish war veterans buried in the Beth Kehillah Cemetery in Egg Harbor Township. For the past 10 years, scouts from Boy Scout Troop 389, which is chartered by Atlantic Christian School in Egg Harbor Township, have assisted the Jewish war veterans from Jewish War Vets Post 39 in Margate in honoring their fallen comrades by placing flags in the cemetery to honor their memory.

“From the scout’s perspective, it is an honor to be asked to do this as a remembrance of those who have served our nation in its time of need” said Troop 389 Scoutmaster Mike Jorgenson.

Over the span of three hours, the scouts worked in teams of two to place flags at the gravesites of about 100 Jewish veterans.  “Among the lessons that we teach in Scouting is to show reverence to those who have served unselfishly in the military to protect and preserve our freedoms,” said Peter Karabashian, Committee Chair of Troop 389, who is also a veteran.
