Atlantic Cape Recognizes Outstanding Contributions of Student Athletes at 3rd Annual Athletics Banquet

Atlantic Cape Community College honored its Buccaneers student athletes for their hard work, determination and perseverance in the classroom as well as on their respective fields and courts of play this year at the 3rd Annual Athletics Banquet in Jonathan Pitney Hall Gymnasium on May 14 on the Mays Landing campus.

 

Each of the college’s nine athletics program coaches and players were recognized and applauded for their Buccaneer spirit in 2023-24 along with many who worked tirelessly behind the scenes.

 

“I want to thank Dr. Barbara Gaba for seeing the vision for athletics and always showing her appreciation. Our student athletes because without them we do not have a program. Our Board of Trustees for all of your support, and all of our directors and counselors who have helped our students this year,” said Athletic Director Jamal Edwards. “Also, thanks to Melissa Brault, our assistant director and trainer, for keeping our athletes healthy, to Marcia LaSasso for doing all of the things you don’t see, to Dr. Natalie Devonish for always being there whenever I need anything, and to our coaches whose dedication helps our programs succeed.”

 

Awards were presented to student athletes for excelling in their respective sports:

 

  • Archery: Most Dedicated Archer, Canluan Wang, and Team Leadership Award, Brooke Kaelble.
  • Esports: Outstanding Team Leadership, Hayden Heenan; Outstanding Team Leadership, Alison Abraham; and Most Valuable Teammate, Joseph Woodruff.
  • Men’s Basketball: Most Outstanding Player, Christopher Parker, and Defensive Player Award, Antwan Bridgett.
  • Men’s Soccer: Most Valuable Player, Nicholas Maldonado, and Most Improved Athlete, Dimas Hernandez.
  • Men’s Volleyball: Most Improved Athlete, Collin O’Brien, and Coaches Award, Narshid Cruz.
  • Women’s Soccer: Player of the Season, Anette Escobedo, and Teammate of the Season, Carly Miller.
  • Women’s Volleyball: Most Valuable Player, Angeliza Disla, and Coaches Award, Alejandra Ceballos.

 

Members of the Men’s Volleyball team were also presented with the Garden State Athletic Conference Division III champions plaque. The team earned this honor by finishing 9-1 in the conference and 11-4 overall in its first season of varsity competition.

 

Student athletes were recognized for being named to the All-Academic Team: Badrul Alam Ruhin, Maria Alejandra Ceballos, Alec Barnes, Aaliyah Carozzoni-Van Dyke, Omero Chevere, Christopher Cuazitl-Daniel, Ousseynou Dia, Hayden Heenan, Brooke Kaelble, Andrew Lea, Immanuel Lewis, Dan Luna, Madison Mahieu, Mohammed Mbye, Alexandra Montoya, Aiden Nicholls, Collin O’Brien, Jermiah Perezlugo, Alex Prajzner, Sadman Sakib, Madison Ventura, Canluan Wang, Emmanuel Waugh and Sultana Zakia.

Student athletes named to the 2nd All-Region Team included Joshua Baez, Angeliza Disla, Christopher Parker and Emmanuel Waugh.

Student athletes named to the 1st All-Conference Team included Joshua Baez and Christopher Parker.

 

Student athletes named to the 2nd All-Conference Team included Angeliza Disla and Emmanuel Waugh. 

 

Student athlete Mohammed Mbye was named to the 3rd All-Conference Team.

 

“I want to congratulate each athletics team for all of their hard work. To the students, we acknowledge the amount of time that you spend having to practice and play,” said Dr. Devonish. “So, for you to accomplish what you have done this year, as well as staying on top of your academics and listening to your coaches, is a huge feat.”

 

Members of the Class of 2024 were presented with a framed commemorative Atlantic Cape Buccaneers athletics patch for their contributions to their respective sports.

 

Atlantic Cape Buccaneer coaches were recognized and applauded for their commitment to the Buccaneer student athletes and to the athletic programs they lead throughout the year: 

 

  • Archery: Head Coach John Repnicki and Assistant Coach John Ward
  • Baseball: Head Coach Craig Muckle and Assistant Coach Joseph Schipsi
  • Men’s Basketball: Head Coach Allen Ragland and Assistant Coach Jamal Edwards
  • Women’s Basketball: Head Coach John Miller
  • Esports: Head Coach William “Bud” Morey
  • Men’s Soccer: Head Coach Luis Paz and Assistant Coach Douglas Mills
  • Women’s Soccer: Head Coach Wesley Raywood
  • Men’s and Women’s Volleyball: Head Coach Karla Maisto and Assistant Coach Joshua Concepcion.
