Crews Deliver More than 9,000 lbs. of Food Donations to the Community FoodBank of NJ
The Atlantic County Utilities Authority (ACUA) collection crews delivered 9,213 lbs. of non-perishable food donations to Community FoodBank of New Jersey (CFBNJ) in Egg Harbor Township as a result of the Authority’s 34th Annual Holiday Food Drive.
The annual drive provides a unique and convenient opportunity for residents to contribute to those in need by placing out a bag of donations on the curb next to their recycling bins. ACUA crews then gather and deliver the donations to the food bank. Since its beginnings in 1991, the drive has provided more than one million lbs. of food.
“Thank you to the many residents who participated in this year’s drive,” said ACUA President Matthew DeNafo. “Although the drive requires some additional heavy lifting from our crews, ACUA employees are happy to help deliver these important necessities to our community.”
Atlantic County has one of the highest rates of food insecurity in the state – nearly 1 in 8 residents are struggling.
“For many people in New Jersey, the holiday season doesn’t bring joy and cheer. There are families right here in our communities who will struggle to put special meals on the table,” said Kate Pashley, CFBNJ Food Sourcing Manager. “To make things even more challenging, the cost of food has risen dramatically over the past several years.”
ACUA’s drive was just one way Atlantic County residents can help those in need.
