23-Year-Old Man was Recovered from Weymouth Furnace in Apparent Drowning

On Sunday, June 27, at approximately 4:30 PM, a 23-year-old man was recovered from the water of Weymouth Furnace, a county park in Mays Landing. The man had apparently drowned.Weymouth Furnace is a popular spot for canoeing, kayaking and tubing along the Great Egg Harbor River. Swimming, however, is not permitted in county parks and signs are posted to advise visitors. The only exception is the Cove in Lake Lenape Park that is protected by a lifeguard.County officials remind the public of the importance of only swimming in guarded, designated areas whether in the ocean, a swimming pool, lake or river.This incident is currently under investigation. Weymouth Furnace remains closed to visitors at this time.
