2025 MBA “Pride of Margate” Scholarship Asks Students How Growing Up in Margate Shaped Future

For decades, Margate school children have enjoyed a multitude of opportunities to grow and thrive in preparation for college and ultimately as young adults. Whether it’s working at a local ice cream shop or on beach patrol, volunteering at a Margate event, or participating in a beach or bay clean up, Margate students can learn from their contributions to the community and benefit directly from that experience. The Margate Business Association’s 2025 “Pride of Margate” Scholarship program is asking applicants to define exactly how growing up in Margate has shaped their future and personal growth with a 200-300 word essay due by April 16, 2025.  The top two student essays will each be awarded a $2,500 college scholarship.  To apply go to MargateHasMore.com.

The 2025 scholarship application is now available to download from the margatehasmore.com website and through high school guidance offices.  The scholarship is open to Margate and Longport resident high school students who attended Margate City schools.  The deadline for submissions is Wednesday, April 16, 2025.  Students will be asked to submit a 200-300 word essay of original work (no AI) detailing the impact how being raised in Margate has prepared them for the future and how it has molded them on a personal level.  Adult references, a list of schools attended and community service activities the applicant participated in, will also be part of the application.  Essay judges will not know the identity of the applicants and winners will be announced in June.

Since 1999, the scholarship program has awarded over $130,000 to local students attending institutions of higher learning.  Margate residents and Margate Business Association founders Daniel and Maria Walters were both educators in the Greater Egg Harbor Regional School District and began the program as a way to give back to the community they loved. The program, in part, is also supported by funds raised at the MBA 22nd annual Wine Tasting to be held Friday July 18, at Memories on Amherst Ave.
