‘ZOMBIE PROM’ Combines Science Fiction Comic Books and B-grade Movies to Make One Great Musical

Ocean City, NJ – Zombies are roaming the Ocean City Music Pier, but rather than seeking out human prey; these ghouls are singing and dancing. Ocean City Theatre Company’s “Zombie Prom” production features students in 7th-12th grades and runs November 4th and 5th at 7:30pm. Tickets, priced at $15 apiece, are available through the City of Ocean City’s Information Centers, by calling 609-399-6111, or by visiting oceancityvacation.com/boxoffice

The students of Enrico Fermi High have all the typical teen concerns: classes, after-school activities, who’s dating whom, and, of course, zombies. “Zombie Prom” is a girl-loves-ghoul rock-n-roll off-Broadway musical set in the atomic 1950s to a tuneful selection of original songs in the style of 50s hits.

At Enrico Fermi High School, where a zany, tyrannical principal lays down the law, pretty senior Toffee has fallen for the class bad boy. Family pressure forces her to end the romance, and he charges off on his motorcycle to the nuclear waste dump. He returns glowing and determined to reclaim Toffee’s heart and graduate, but most of all, he wants to take Toffee to the prom. The principal orders him to drop dead, and a scandal reporter seizes on him as the latest great freak show.

The media’s praise for “Zombie Prom” includes the following: “A musical blast! Fun for the whole nuclear family!” said the New York Daily News. “Don’t miss it! Slicker than Grease, smoother than Rocky Horror, bigger and funnier than Little Shop of Horrors!” said WOR. “Exhilarating! Sharp, spiffy, brighter, and better than both The Rocky Horror Show and Grease put together. It has musical wit and breathtakingly catchy, rich melodies,” said the New York Law Journal.

“Zombie Prom” has music by Dana P. Rowe and book and lyrics by John Dempsey. It is based on a story by John Dempsey and Hugh Murphy. “Zombie Prom” is presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals (www.concordtheatricals.com).

The Ocean City Theatre Company production is directed by Brendan Maly, with musical direction by Brinley Edwards, and choreography by Hannah Catanoso. The stage manager is Holden Whalen. The production team also features costumes by Laura Bretherick, make-up by Aubrey Colbert, lighting design by Todd Williams, and set design by James Hartman.

“Zombie Prom” featuring the students of the Ocean City Theatre Company has a 7:30pm curtain on November 4 and 5 at the Ocean City Music Pier.
