Tropicana Hosts Its Wines From Around the World Wine Festival

Going Places with Dina Guzzardo

Ever been intrigued as to who makes the best Sauvignon Blanc, New Zealand or Chile? Or been dying to make it over to France as you have heard about how the Pinot Noir in Burgundy produces a much more oaky taste than that of Tasmania, Australia? Perhaps you have no idea what I am talking about, but you just LOVE wine! The perfect festival for wine enthusiasts is set to take place on Saturday, February 22 in the Grand Exhibition Center at Tropicana Casino, Atlantic City. Sample over 100 different types of wine from some of the best winemakers in the world. This event is ideal if you have a party or function coming up and are on the market for wines to impress your guests, or even for just your own personal collection and you are searching for something new to sip on a Friday night by the fire.

Most wines will be available either by the bottle or case, so you better make sure you have done your research by sampling as many as you can, it only makes sense, right? If you are the designated driver no worries, there is also a range of food vendors selling some amazing dishes plus live entertainment from Cheezy and the Crackers. So, while your friends may be sampling the wine, you can hit those amazing food vendors and listen to some great tunes from a band who describe themselves as ‘a couple of gnarly dudes, getting funky. Everywhere, and all the time’. Their music is a blend of rock, reggae and hip hop and they are definitely worth a listen.

We all know Valentine’s day can be crazy to organize. High expectations to do something romantic, most restaurants are booked up and many have limited menus. This year why not try something a bit different than the usual. Celebrate Valentine’s Day a few days later and for a fraction of the price of a three-course meal? Make memories for Valentine’s Day this year and learn how to really appreciate a good bottle of wine while attending a wine seminar. Find that signature bottle that really expresses who you are as a couple and load up on it. Maybe tasting a beautiful Italian Chianti will inspire a trip to Tuscany next year to visit the world-famous Barone Ricasoli winery and even take the wine tasting knowledge you have gained from this festival?

This will be the second year that this event will take place with last year’s festival being a huge success with attendees. Ashley went last year and has this to say: “Last year’s event was awesome, there were so many different wines to sample, some I had never even heard of before! They taught you how to taste it like a real sommelier which was really cool. I ended up buying a few different bottles for a party I was throwing and so many people complimented me on the wine!”

The festival runs from 2pm – 6pm giving you plenty of time to decide if you want that Argentinian Malbec by the bottle or the case (I recommend the case). Also included in the ticket is a free wine glass, admission to the educational wine seminar and a plate of fruit and cheese.

Tickets are $35 in advance or $40 on the day and are available for purchase at the Tropicana Box Office and at ticketmaster.com. If you were unlucky enough to draw the short straw and are the designated driver then you will get your ticket for just $10, so hey, you might not be able to drink but at least you will get to enjoy all the other amazing entertainment and stalls at a great price! Plus, you will be able to catch up when you make it home and enjoy the wine your friends have just bought, not mention the food vendors and live music. This event is strictly for guests aged 21 and over so ensure you have valid ID ready to show.

So, make memories for Valentine’s Day this year and celebrate it just a few days later at the Wines from Around the World Festival. Or just grab your girlfriends for a Galantine’s Day special, enjoying the vast range of wines available. There is nothing like a glass of wine and a gossip with your gal pals. There is no better event to experience some of the best globally made wines and all from the comfort of your hometown.
