THE SOUNDS OF THE HOLIDAY SEASON BEGIN AT JIM WHELAN BOARDWALK HALL

Free Organ Recitals on the World’s Largest Pipe Organ

This is the season for traditions and creating memories. Lasting memories for you and your family will be made as you join us for the return of daily weekday recitals on the magnificent pipe organs of Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall. Beginning on Monday, December 5, 2022 through Friday, December 23, 2022, the free noon recitals will be offered Monday through Friday to the public. The pipe organs of Boardwalk Hall include the massive 33,112-pipe Midmer-Losh, the world’s largest musical instrument, and the beautiful W. W. Kimball organ. Visitors of all ages will be entertained with various genres of music performed by renowned organists from near and far on one of the grand organs being restored by the Historic Organ Restoration Committee. The newly restored Choir division of the Midmer-Losh can now be heard after decades of silence. If you have heard the pipe organs in the past or have never heard them, now is the time to bring your family and friends to enjoy a spectacular musical experience together.

Make Wednesdays even more memorable by signing up for the specialty two-hour Curator’s Tour that begins at 10:00 a.m. in the lobby. This extraordinary journey will take visitors through Boardwalk Hall as they learn about its history and architecture. Historic Boardwalk Hall is on the National Register of Historic Places and has National Landmark status. Visitors will be guided through two of the large organ chambers and get up close to the seven-manual console that the organist uses to control the instrument to create an incredible musical experience. The tour includes a visit to the restoration shop to meet the members of the Historical Organ Restoration Committee team and the dedicated volunteers to learn more about the amazing restoration project. Donation for the Curator’s Tour is $10. For more information and to register for the Curator’s Tour (space is limited), visit www.boardwalkorgans.org or call (609) 402-9584 ext. 700. The tour is immediately followed by the free noon recital. The last Curator’s Tour of 2022 is December 28, 2022 and is a perfect time to bring family and friends travelling to the area during the week between Christmas and New Year’s Eve!

About HORCHistoric Organ Restoration Committee is a 501c3 chartered by the state of New Jersey for the restoration and preservation of the two pipe organs of Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall. In addition to the actual physical restoration of the instruments, HORC seeks to educate and increase awareness of the unique importance of these instruments as irreplaceable national treasures through programming and tours throughout the year. The large organ (main auditorium) is the world’s largest musical instrument; the smaller instrument (Adrian Phillips Theater) is one uniquely suited to the interpretation of silent film.
